Description: Well before the release of this solid but slender debut, the Brooklyn-based Yeah Yeah Yeahs were the subject of so much international press hype that the White Stripes were probably taking quick, nervous peeks over their shoulders. But while
Fever to Tell captures a lot of whats good about the trio--mostly the caterwauling energy of their club shows--it also exposes the bands limitations. Singer Karen O is the undeniable star here, contorting her voice from a primal P.J. Harvey growl to the pre-orgasmic purr of Chrissie Hynde. Nick Zinner chops, slashes, and torpedoes his guitar around, across, and straight at Os voice, while drummer Brian Chase delivers a suitably raw trash-can thump. There are a lot of cool sounds on this 11-song, 37-minuute disc, and enough metallic-KO attitude to make a bare-chested grandpa like Iggy Pop proud. Whats missing is a more varied set of fully fleshed-out songs, the kind it took the White Stripes four albums to write. Hype too early in a career can be terrible burden--ask Liz Phair or, soon enough, the Vines. Better to enjoy
Fever to Tell for what it is--an uninhibited blast of garage-rock fury--without swallowing extravagant claims for a potentially great band still under construction.

Reviews:
Good CD
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' CD Fever to Tell is their second.
I think many people went out to buy this CD, after listening to 'Maps'. Unfortunately, only 2 other songs are even remotely similar to 'Maps'. Most people came out disappointed.
Karen O (vocals) has a raw energy, singing raunchy lyrics with the guitars in the background accentuating and complementing her voice nicely. The songs are about sex, and do contain vulgarity. This CD isn't for the kids. She demonstrates that she can do something other than moan in songs like 'Maps', 'Y Control', and 'Modern Romance'. She has a nice voice. It oozes sexuality when she wants it to, or it oozes innocence.
This CD is that punkish, garage-band type of music. If you're looking for songs similar to 'Maps', you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for raunchy, orgasmic sounds, then this is for you. Luckily, I fell into the latter category. I think this band has got quite a bit of talent.
it's only rock'n'roll
This is rock'n'roll music, in my opinion, of the very good kind. When I listen to this kind of music, I'm looking for some kind of energy, hopefully lots of it and on that front, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs most definitely deliver. I can't wait to see them live, I've heard it's better than the recorded stuff.
Yes, it's simple, in skill, arrangement, whatever. And it's loud, screeching, vulgar (not all of it though). If you're put off by that then you're barking up the wrong tree, I don't know why you thought you'd like it in the first place.
One woman wall of sound
Karen O
O my
Karen O
F****** O Karen
Cortical sex music.
Karen moans/yelps/spits and screams her way through every second.
Unbelievable sound from one guitar, one set of drums and every sexed up primal B**** known to mankind all rolled up into Karen O.
Makes ZZ Top look like pussies.
