Description: When Whitney Houston arrived on the scene as a fresh-faced ing(nue in 1985, few could have predicted the level of superstardom she'd achieve or how fast she'd do it. Certainly the voice was there--supple, soulful, and when called upon, explosive. But the material on her debut album--and those that followed it, for that matter--was bland pop pap that mostly wasted her gift. Still there were numerous hits on
Whitney Houston, including a trio of ballads: "You Give Good Love," "Saving All My Love for You," and the extraordinarily vapid "Greatest Love of All." The up-tempo "How Will I Know" was a mere trifle, perhaps, but it's one of her most winning performances. And that video. That dress. 'Nuff said.

Reviews:
10 STARS to this cd...Whitney won't get better like this.
FIRST AT ALL, I HAVE TO LET YOU KNOW I'M NOT WHITNEY'S FAN...I MEAN, I KNEW HER BY "The Bodyguard" TEME "I Will Always Love You"...AND THE SUPER HIT "IT's Not RIGHT but Its OK"...WHEN I BROUGHT THIS CD HOW I WILL KNOW I WAS GOING TO HEAR THE BEST ALBUM ON THE HISTORY?...AMAZING. MY FAVOURITES ARE "YOU GIVE GOOD LOVE" "THE GREATEST LOVE.." AND THE ENTIRE ALBUM IS JUST IRREPETIBLE...HER VOICE NEVER WAS SO GREAT, MORE THAN A DIVA, SHE SOUNDS LIKE A GOODNESS OF THE ADULT R&B MUSIC...I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FOUND SOME ALBUM SO PERFECT LIKE THIS ONE, OR EVEN CLOSE, BUT UNTIL NOW I COULDN'T...
Vocal perfection on a classic debut
Whitney Houston made a name for herself with her voice on this undisputed piece of pop history, her debut album. The songs and production are heavy in simplicity, yet her strong, incredible voice manages to surpass the bland production and lyrics, leading the listener to want more... and that's what makes this 10-track collection priceless, even 20 years later.
She nails each ballad on here; the sparkly "You Give Good Love" and graceful "Saving All My Love" being the best. You can't help but love the few up-tempo tracks on here also (The vocal in the infectious "How Will I Know" is unforgettable). While the album's filler are the 3 early duets, the soulful, tender "Hold Me" with Teddy Pendergrass is one of the album's high points, even though it is the closer.
All in all, this is a great debut for one of the 20th century's greatest vocalists. Despite somewhat forgettable production, Whitney makes the album memorable with her powerful voice, and establishes a pop gem that sounds pretty great, even today.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
This album is very good. I mean me personally, growing up in the 90's I'm not used to that real poppy eighties music. But, when I heard Whitney's album, I was like, wow! It's very great, every song is so heart felt, and not many artists can feel the words that they sing, they just wanna show of their vocals skills. My favorite songs are "You Give Good Love," "Saving All My Love For You," "Greastest Love Of All," "How Will I Know," "All At Once," basically the whole album. It's only ten songs, but don't worry, they are the best ten songs that I've ever heard! The cover is kinda different, yeah doesn't go with the album.
