Description: Rock & roll is constantly splintering into multiple personalities. Big radio players layer thick slabs of studio shine on their albums, while back-to-the-basics rockers keep the sound so raw it rubs calluses on your ears. The White Stripes fall in the latter category. The duo strips down to the fundamentals of Meg White's simple drumbeat and Jack White's garagy guitar and pleading vocals. While the elements are sparse, the Detroit act create a noisy, hip-grinding batch of punk R&B, displayed again on
White Blood Cells, the Stripes' third full-length. While it's hard to pick favorites from such talent, this band only gets better with time. White's vocals were sounding like a young Robert Plant on
De Stijl--definitely not a bad thing--but on
Cells, he's developed his own persona. He throws musical fits on "Fell in Love with a Girl," gets almost loungy on the piano number "This Protector," and keeps the blues vibe running on "Now Mary." The album is so rich with basic variations on a simple theme it's hard to believe such soulful energy comes from just two people.
White Blood Cells is an amazing piece of work, a benchmark that ought to inspire new legions of garage rockers for years to come.

Reviews:
WOW
I bought this CD the day after I saw the music video for "fell in love with a girl." I figured any band that makes a music video out of legos can't be all that bad. I was absolutely blown away after listening to the CD. I hadn't heard this kind of dark creativity from a band in years. I assumed that this band was gonna be a one hit wonder, I was shocked to discover fell in love with a girl wasn't the best song on the album, it was the worst and I love that song. The White Stripes are an amazing band, I can't believe that two people can create such an awesome sound. The new Led Zepplin.
I prefer Elephant
I got hooked on to The White Stripes after listening to Elephant which in my opinion is one of the best albums I own.I must admit White Blood Cells hasn't measured up to my expectations....I'd give it 3 and a half stars for great songs like Dead Leaves, fell In Love With a Girl,Same Boy You've Always Known,Hotel Yorba and the 50 second track "Little Room".
Rating the CD (it's a must have.)
Usually I'd opt for Queens of the Stone age or Slip Knot but this is really awesome. Here are my ratings of the songs...
1.8/10 good but just doesn't do it for me..
2.10/10 one of the best songs I've ever heard!
3.7/10 kind of IFy like the lyrics...
4.9/10 love the song punk all the way :)--<
5.5/10 worst song on the whole album:{
6.9/10 oh man this is so catchy it's just a little short.
7.7/10 like the middle the rest is too slow.
8.6/10 you are getting very sleepy.
9.10/10 geeze is this great or what I could listen to it over and over..
This is only half of the songs it's just I'm running out of space so this is a great CD!!
Good...
I didn't like it as much as Elephant, but it's a really good CD anyway. I like Hotel Yorba and Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground
Breakthrough "Classic" Rock
The White Stripes came from out of nowhere (although White Blood Cells was already their third album) to rise to the top of the Invasion of the Plural Nouns (The Hives, The Strokes, The Vines, etc.). Maybe it was their added adjective, or their simple color scheme, or their seemingly incestuous brother-sister/husband-wife relationship. After all, marketing has played a very important role in their success.
But none of that would matter if not for the music. White Blood Cells is simply a fine album of simple rock and roll. Jack White's guitar and vocals and Meg White's drums lay down a basic attractive foundation on which to massage rock cliches while remaining true to themselves. The White Stripes are one of the most "influenced" bands I've heard recently, and yet that does not detract from the enjoyment of the music.
I originally became interested as a fan of the film Citizen Kane. I heard that Jack had taken lines from the film and turned it into the song "The Union Forever." I had to hear it. In the process, I ended up listening to the whole CD over and over again. Its short length makes for such an easily repetitive experience.
I look forward to more great things from the duo that calls themselves the White Stripes, whatever their relationship with one another. As long as they keep making music this good, I'll live with whatever marketing scheme they think of next.
Words can't explain
and neither can i. this cd is rock 'n' roll. i can't describe it any better than that. there's everything. this cd changed mine and thousands of other lives. the white stripes have a gift and let's hope they last as long as bands like zeppelin and the ramones did. that's all i have to say.
