Description: Favorite topics on this collection of Weird Al classics include food and medical problems. Superstar Michael Jackson gets sent up twice: "Bad" is transformed into "Fat" and "Beat It" becomes "Eat It," a hit in its own right. Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" is turned into a paean to potatoes, "Addicted to Spuds." And Los Lobos' version of the durable "La Bamba" is reconfigured into "Lasagna." Madonna's "Like a Virgin" becomes a song about a different kind of beginner on "Like a Surgeon," while James Brown's "Living in America" is parodied on "Living with a Hernia." If you want to take a funhouse mirror trip back to the 1980s,
Greatest Hits is a good way to do it. Produced by rock & roll veteran Rick Derringer, who rocked out with Johnny and Edgar Winter and produced Meatloaf and Kiss.

Reviews:
A nice look at the early career
This CD puts many of Al's greatest songs from the first 5 years of his career into one collection. It's really great to realize how many awesome songs Al was able to put out in his early career. All of the song will have you rolling on the floor with laughter. This CD is good for someone who doesn't have the early albums, or someone who just wants to complete their collections.
Parody Paradise
Weird Al's "Greatest Hits, Volume 1" lives up to its name. A collection of admittedly can't-listen-to-them-too-often hits, what you have here are some of the best examples of parody songs you'll find anywhere. A send-up of Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" ("Addicted to Spuds") and the original song "One More Minute" are gloom-busters of the best kind. Also included are hilarious takes on Madonna's "Like A Virgin," and Michael Jackson's "Bad" and "Beat It."
"One More Minute" is as dead-on a spoof of 50's angst/love songs as you'll ever find, right down to the sob in Al's voice. True, you can't listen to albums like this too often or they wear on you, but try taking it off the shelf every once in a while for a listen. It's almost guaranteed to brighten your day.
Weird Al is not losing it!
I've read all over in reviews that say that Weird Al is just not as good as he used to be! I disagree! My friend got me into him and some of his songs I like, for instants: "Amish Paradise", "Lasagna", "Eat It", "The Complicated Song", and "The Day Santa Went Crazy"! Others- I just don't care for! Personally, I think know that we're in the 21st century, and people are listening to a lot more crude music, this is the guy to write a song, funnier and cooler with that parody! I'm not a big music fan, but I can tell you one thing- I'd pick Weird Al, over Simple Plan or anyother hot bands out!
