Off the Deep End: a good place to begin converting to Al-ism

I was introduced to the world of Weird Al by a friend, who loaned me this album. Immediately after I returned it to him, I rushed out and bought my own copy. Why? Weird Al's brand of magic has transformed a previously un-musicked person into an avid listener.

Weird Al's incredible parody and satire continues in Off the Deep End, in my opinion his best album so far (second perhaps only to Even Worse). This song features a stunning line-up of Weird Al goodness. The moment you put the CD in, "Smells Like Nirvana" (parody of "Smells Like Team Spirit"; the music similarity is obvious) will draw you in. "Trigger Happy" is a treat of humor (perfect for your next America's First Right gun club meeting). "Polka Your Eyes Out", like any other Al polka medley, gets a bit zany, but it's fun to try and pick out the snatches of songs comprising it. I keep reminding myself to play "When I Was Your Age" to my kids (if I get around to that point).

Weird Al is a great pick for anyone in the mood. If you're a stern, sit-on-sticks person, or are rabidly devoted to any particular band that Weird Al mocks, you might want to steer clear. But if you need a dose of humor and good tunes rolled into one, pick up a Weird Al album.

Smells like another hit!

Al once again will leave you rolling on the floor laughing with his 7th album. He just keeps getting stronger with each album. Smells Like Nirvana is a classic, and those Nirvana fans that hate it don't understand humor. He's just joking, and the band loved it, and said it was really funny. Kurt Cobain himself that he knew Nirvana had really made it when Al parodied them. Anyway, the album is great. The parodies and the originals are dead-on and really funny.

usually i like weird al but the only song i dont like on this album is smells like nirvana. nirvana is cool come on..... but it does make me feel better that kurt OK'd it and that some of the band members liked it.
