Pretty Good for a Soundtrack
I won't lie, I enjoyed the movie. But I enjoyed the soundtrack even more.
While, like any soundtrack, it contains a lot of filler, there is a surprising amount of good songs, and even a few great ones. Any song with Maynard Keenan is worth listening to, and this albums has not one but--count em!--four. I think the "Weak and Powerful" remix is almost better than the original, and the "Judith" remix is quite listenable, too. But the other two--which are some of the shining moments of this CD--are beautiful.
"Rev 22:20" is one of the best love songs I've heard in a while, and Maynard really gets to use his amazing voice in conjunction with another amazing voice--David Bowie--on the Lohner mix of "Bring Me The Disco King."
Even Milla Jovovich--yes, the actress--shines in her one song on the disc. She really does have a beautiful voice, and puts it to good use in "Rocket Collecting."
The rest of the album is ultimately forgettable. The only reason the Dillinger Escape Plan song will stick out is because of it's being the only real metal song on the soundtrack. Page Hamilton's "Throwing Punches" is corny and almost difficult to listen to. I can't even remember the rest, which is some clue as to how good the songs may be.
While it does have a lot of forgettable stuff, though, the few good songs are worth the price of the CD, especially if you're a fan of Keenan's or just damned good singing.
Terrible
If you shop at hot topic and fancy yourself a 'goth', you might like this cd (except for The Dillinger Escape Plan song, which will more than likely confuse and terrify you). If you have taste or a brain, you will skip this one and buy Miss Machine, which has a remixed version of Baby's First Coffin on it anyway.
WHERE the hell is the song i bought this ablum for?????
The whole friggin reason i bought this soundtrack was because i REALLY liked the song that was playing while Michael was transforming into a liken in the back of the police car after he had been kidnapped. It was a GREAT metal song yet its not on the score nor the soundtrack!!! What the hell?
