Description: Marc Shaiman, the former
SNL musical director/film composer who scored an Oscar nomination for his collaboration on
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and makes occasional contributions here, once called SP co-creator Trey Parker "the biggest heterosexual show queen" he'd ever met. The satirical songs Parker wrote (and sometimes performs) for he and Matt Stone's inventive, marionette-starring skewering of Hollywood action films, American foreign intrigues and political correctness of various stripes only confirms Parker's status as the idiot savant Sondheim. Trey's musical desecration here is as hilarious as it is equal opportunity, variously taking aim at manipulative Broadway fare (the Rent send-up "Everyone Has AIDS"), patriotism-pimping country stars like Toby Keith ("Freedom Isn't Free"), schlock ballad queen Diane Warren ("Only A Woman") and mindlessly jingoistic macho-rock anthems ("America, Fuck Yeah"). Parker's unlikely showcase for North Korean dictator Kim Il Jong ("I'm So Ronery") manages to be loopy, genuinely touching and typically un-PC all at once. The underscore cues by Harry Gregson-Williams take informed, if more subtle jabs at his own oeuvre and that of his oft cliché-ridden colleagues: heroic marches, nervous techno and uber brooding orchestral cues played so straight that context is often the only clue to their parody intent. It's a welcome puncturing of much bloated Hollywood pomposity -- and far and away our favorite soundtrack of the year. --Jerry McCulley

Reviews:
Hilarious!
This Cd is pretty hilarious. I love the parody of cliched 80s-90s action film themes, "America, F##K Yeah". And I don't know what that last guy was talking about Matt and Trey not getting any money for the movie. they got a lot of money for it considering they wrote it, directed it, and did like all the voices, plus Trey wrote all these songs and performed a lot of them. But Matt and Trey have said it's cool if fans download their songs for free, they're just happy that people like it. But this CD is way worth your cash,GO BUY IT NOW OR I WILL SEND MY NINJA MONKEY SLAVES TO ASSASSINATE YOU!!!
just great
first i wanna say that the movie was so hilarious that i almost puked laughing and ironically, trey and matt didn't make any money on this film. the lyrics to the songs are great and should make you laugh (or you're just plain weird). i think my personal favorites are "america, f**k yeah" and "i'm so ronery". nothing is funnier than kim jong il singing a ballad in his stereotypical asian accent. and someone said that "derka derk (terrorist theme)" was an aladdin rip-off (dude, you're completely wrong). it's actually a mock-up parody of the "cantina theme (star wars)". duh. anyway i don't really recommend buying the album since the only track you absolutely need is "america, f**k yeah". so just download it illegally or rip it off somehow because trey and matt didn't make any money on the film anyway, so what's the use.
Team America Soundtrack
Stupid, just stupid. A couple of funny things like "America, F*** Yeah" and "Everyone has Aids", but thats about it. A lame album altogether.
