Description: With
Now 17 the producers of this chart-busting series have accepted, to their credit, a truism: You can't please 'em all. That accounts for the opposite-ends-of-the-genre-spectrum inclusiveness of the disc, and also for the lion's share of its appeal. Like hip-hop but hate country? Count yourself in, courtesy of Terror Squad ("Lean Back"), J-Kwon ("You & Me"), and the Beastie Boys ("Ch-Check It Out"), or out, owing to Gretchen Wilson ("Here for the Party") and Keith Urban ("Days Go By"). Ditto for girl pop (Ashlee Simpson's "Pieces of Me," Jessica Simpson's "Angels") and hard rock (Crossfade's "Cold")--take it or leave it or, if you're truly well-rounded, love it, track for track. With its finger directly on the pulse of what passes for pop in 2004,
17 poses its share of challenges--the Switchfoot crowd doesn't lend itself to being lumped together with JoJo's posse--but it skillfully folds the whole package into a better than palatable mix aimed directly at the fun-loving and the musically tolerant. Sensible sequencing (rap leads to pure pop leads to rock leads to country) seals the deal, so that all you're left wondering is, What happened to Hoobastank? --

Reviews:
OK
This a good CD but, with a little too much rap and R&B. Personally i'm not a very big rap fan so, I don't like the first 10 songs too much. The good ones are OK but, the bad ones I hate. I'm not a very big rap fan so, maybe a bigger rap fan would like the first 10 or so songs better. My favorites are Cold, Take me out, and 1985. cold is a good song, could use a better startup and rhyming words but, other than that it's my third favorite song on the CD. Take me is a great song, I'm susprised I didn't hear this song before then, it's a great song. mazing guitar and lyrics make it my favorite song on the CD. 1985 uses great lyrics and OK guitar to become my 2nd favorite song on the CD.
Let's get it started: a good song, I don't exactly why it doesn't top my list but, like i said I'm not a big rap fan: 7.5/10
I like that: great beat, a little repetitive: 7.5/10
dare you to move: an OK song, repetitive also, could you better lyrics: 8/10
Here for the party: A good song, good lyrics and guitar: 8.5/10
everthing else isn't that great. It might sound better to a bigger rap fan but, you would have to get another reviewer for those songs.
OVERALL GRADE: 7/10
GOOD SONGS: 3
OK SONGS: 5
BAD SONGS: 9
ungraded songs: 3
Pretty Lame
I really didn't like this CD at all. The BEP song at the beginning is fun, but the rest of the CD is cloaked in "sameness" until the mellow music at the end. This CD appears to be an attempt to try to appeal to everyone. However, in doing so, I think most people will find one or two pieces on it worth listening to more than once and ignore the rest. This may be a factor in current music culture but I did find the majority of the CD heavy on rap.
This cd is great
This cd has great songs. I love every single song on this cd. It is very easy to get addicted to. Hope everybody loves this cd as much as i do.
