A Compilation Worth The Bucks

COPA MUNDIAL MUZIQUE is a 10 track compilation with the World Cup as it's theme. All the tracks have an Afro-Carribean/Latin flavour, including some percussion heavy tracks by KEVIN YOST, UJUZI and a very sweet track by JOE CLAUSSELL that captures the feel of the ever popular "Body&Soul" event, held in NYC on a regular basis.

The CD opens with TURNSTYLE ORCHESTRA, which is an interesting version of a previous SANTANNA track. All in all, very listenable from top to bottom.

Just in time for this year's World Cup extravaganza in France, Guidance has assembled 10 smoking house cuts with sophisticated international flavor (influenced heavily by Afro-Caribbean, Latin and jazz-inspired sounds) as their tribute to the proceedings. Culling from their own roster as well as licensed goodies from the Zoom, Large, Ibadan, Other, Pan, i! and Soma labels, Copa Mundial Muzique is not only a top-notch thematic idea, but has the solid goods to back it up and ensure a shelf-life beyond the games. The soul-reaching vocals of dub great Johnny Osbourne swirl in a festive array of beats in Kerri Chandler's "Ladbroke Grove," while A Man Called Adam chugs along with the Latin-spiced disco musings of "Que Tal America?" But it's San Francisco's Dubtribe who close with one of the most impressive moments. "Regalos De Amor," recorded especially for Guidance, shows a new maturity for the ebullient band. For football/soccer enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike. Again, it's hats off to Guidance.
