Description: You've watched them on TV and followed them in the media. Now six of the American Idol winners perform 10 of the season's holiday best.
American Idol: The Great Holiday Classics is a bona fide AI songfest for Christmas, featuring Clay Aiken, Rueben Studdard, Tamyra Gray, Kimberly Locke, Justin Guarni and Christina Christian. With two tunes featuring the entire ensemble singing "O Come, All Ye Faithful" and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," two duets, and a couple of cuts by Kelly Clarkson, including "My Grown Up Christmas List," this is a crowd pleaser arranged and lushly orchestrated for fans of the show and fine mainstream singing. The real stars seem to shine though on Christian's playful and seductive "Winter Wonderland" and Studdard's soulful pipes on "This Christmas." Overall it's a rewarding set that's almost too perfect. It seems to beg for a little levity a la William Hung.

Reviews:
It's only all right.
Ooooh, it's only all right, which is a real surprise considering the great offerings in the AI2 compilation.
It's not that bad at all. It's just that expectations are higher after being spoiled by the AI2 compilation.
But none the less, why not, one for the stocking... it is Christmas.
Not a very good Christmas album.. except for Clay & Kelly
The whole album was really bad. The group did not harmonize well on the ensemble songs. Tamyra screamed her way through Silent Night, a very mediocre version of Silver Bells, performed by Kimberley Locke and Clay Aiken. A boring I'll Be Home For Christmas, by Idol Wannabee, but charming, Justin Guarini had me falling asleep. And Winter Wonderland probably came close to being the worst on the album, but This Christmas, sung by Ruben Studdard beat it. Ruben's charm has disapeared since the show. The vocal performance itself was horrible, but as was the song. What ever happened to Traditional Christmas? I'll have to wait for Clay Aiken's Christmas Album to be released this October.
But the highlights are Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - A duet by Tamyra Gray and Ruben Studdard, The Christmas Song sung by Kim Locke, and, the best, The First Noel, sung by Clay Aiken. Think I'm being biased towards Clay? By the album and see for yourself.
And of course Kelly was great. She tends to "scream" sometimes, but she did a good job on "Oh Holy Night and My Grown Up Christmas List - there are better versions then her out there, but Kelly is really a great singer.
Very good Christmas album!
A year since I bought this album, and it still sounds good! I liked Clay Aiken's The First Noel, Ruben Studdard and Tamyra Gray's Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (pretty), Kimberly Locke's offering on here, the ensemble songs and Ruben's This Christmas (with shades of Donny Hathaway in his voice). The only song I didn't like was Christina Christian's Winter Wonderland, which lacked something. A very moving and uplifting Christmas album.
