Reviews:

Excellent Single Disc Compilation, But.....

If you only have enough cash for a single disc "best of" from this great & under-rated 70's band, this Millennium Collection is the definitley the way to go. The 1976 "The Best Of Uriah Heep" is a good single disc album, but only features 9 tracks compared to the 12 offered here. Plus the sound on the Millennium release is much better. My personal advice, however, is to scrape up the extra cash and purchase the vastly superior 2 disc set, "Classic Heep: An Anthology". "An Anthology" contains a whopping 30 tracks and gives a much better musical representation of Uriah Heep. If you're on a tight musical budget though, opt for this album and save you cash for the "Uriah Heep Live - 1973" cd.

If a Parrot could be a rock and roll band...

..It would be Uriah Heep! Yes, they are known, first and foremost, as first-class Deep Purple imitators, that much is true (by the way, DP organist Jon Lord should have "trademarked" his organ riffs, because I think Heep's Ken Hensley nicked every last one of them!) But song-after-song on this compilation, I hear so many other groups in this band's music! The dramatic "Gypsy" could have easily ripped-off from hearing King Crimson's "20th Century Schizoid Man". The song, "July Morning" as their ultimate rip, is basically Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help From My Friends" intro, spliced together with the Vanilla Fudge's "Some Velvet Morning", when vocalist Dave Byron opens his mouth, mocking Vanilla Fudge's Mark Stein to perfection--with different lyrics, of course (but with both song titles ending in the word "morning", you don't think that was a direct copy?) It even sounds as if Uriah Heep took a time machine a few years into the future to hear how Boston would sound on its debut album, and went back to 1971 to record the Boston-esque "High Priestess", with Queen's pomposity thrown in for good measure. And, of course, no Deep Purple imitator can go without imitating an actual Deep Purple song--Heep chose the rave-up section of "Child In Time" for their song "Look At Yourself".
But that's not to say the music here isn't good. It very much is, and I like to hear different variations of songs I like, and Heep can do them all. But who can honestly listen to this, and say there's very much originality in this band's music. These guys are the ultimate rock parrots, sounding like 3 different groups in one song, for crying out loud!
Basically, if you like anyone like Deep Purple, King Crimson, Vanilla Fudge, Boston, Styx, Mountain, Queen, or even Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, you'll find something here you like--unless, of course, you just really get upset for Heep ripping-off your favorites. But who needs a various artists collection on early-70s Psychedelic/prog-metal--Uriah Heep already put one out here!

Uriah Heep is on the Top of the "Heep" in Rock 'N Roll

This CD will light your shorts on fire! You will be floored by the intensity of this CD! You will be singing to this CD and pretending that you are in the band! You will go psyco in a positive way from the genius that awaits you in this CD. What I am trying to say through all this nonsense and "crap" is that this CD is a must have for fans of Rock 'N Roll. Some of the best Rock 'N Roll songs that have ever have been writen have been writen and performed by Uriah Heep. Uriah Heep is so cool! They are one of the best bands ever! Check out this album! You will not be disapointed! I guarantee it!
