Reviews:

need another tour

I wish UFO WOULD tour america again in 2005 this is 1 great cd you are here

Some things just don't go together...

I have been a fan of UFO since I was just a kid and a fan of Vinnie since he first blasted onto the scene years ago with a Pepsi commercial. Who will deny that any one of these musicians is not exceptional?

Any criticism of Vinnie Moore as a guitar player or saying anyone else is "better" is beside the point here. Moore is truly one of the most impressive guitarists ever. This album is simply a bad mix. Not sonically, because the album is well produced. It's a bad mix of musicians. Everybody likes ice cream and everybody likes spaghetti - but I don't know anybody who likes ice cream on their spaghetti. Some things just don't go together.

"You are Here" has a few moments of "OK" but it totally lacks any of the inspiration that a solo Vinnie or old UFO album has. There are definitely no "Lights Out" or "Hero without Honor" cuts on this album.

I was extremely disappointed to hear a note-for-note recycled solo from a previous Moore record in the very first cut of "You are Here". Unfortunately, it sets the tone for the rest of the album. "Jello Man" is just "Midnight Rain" from Moore's 1991 release "Meltdown" - with words added. Shame on Vinnie and UFO for thinking they could just dust off a bunch of Vinnie's old licks and slide them past his loyal fans.

Sadly, as much as I love both UFO and VM, this album rates a 5 out of 10 - maybe lower depending on your mood. Production value aside, these guys are capable of much more. Or is that "much Moore"? In any event, production value only matters when it is applied to great songs - and great songs are what this album lacks

Vinnie Moore no more

Vinnie Moore doesn't play in the same league as Jeff Kollman and probably never will. Vinnie is all technique ( eventhough he doesn't impress one second here ) and no soul or feel. Jason Bonham's bass drums sound too much like Metallica and don't honour his father's and Andy Parker's sound . This problem can be solved easily but I'm not so sure about Vinnie's...It's Phil Mogg who really makes the album worth listening to. I don't care whether Phil will be making his next album under the name UFO or Mogg/ Way or Sign of Four, but I hope it will be with Jeff Kollman !
