Description: Ten years had passed since Petty's last solid outing (Damn the Torpedoes in 1979), and Full Moon Fever fully resuscitated the artist's career, which--some would say "arguably"--had been losing steam. With the album's four major hits and rave reviews from the critics (these things do not always go hand-in-hand), Petty must have breathed a sigh of relief. He left the Heartbreakers behind, hooked up with musician, writer, and producer Jeff Lynne, and rocked out with "Runnin' Down a Dream," got mellow and introspective on "Free Fallin'" and "A Face in the Crowd," and paid tribute (finally) to the Byrds with a cover of "Feel a Whole Lot Better." He perfected the sing-along guitar-pop song on "Yer So Bad" and had a wild time on "Zombie Zoo." Pure Petty perfection! --Lorry Fleming

Reviews:

Cool really really cool

i found his cd in a garage sale it's was excellent and tom petty is pretty cool. He's not relly much listened to but if it was a rating out 100 i would give him 100% i guess it's kinda rock but not really if you see this cd cheap get it!

Easily One of the Best Albums on Earth

Growing up with parents who loved music, they would show me their favorite records and play them while working on hobbies or cleaning about the house. I always wondered what album I'd be showing my future kids. "Full Moon Fever" is one of these albums I "grew up with" and that I'll proudly share in the future.

The compositions are catchy, clever, and played with fine musicianship. The lyrics are awesome and fit the music perfectly. Tom could never sing about anything else for any of these tunes.

I remember in '88 or '89 when he played in Denver and all the cool kids in the back of the bus had gone to see him. They would talk about his concert and sing his songs, and I felt a sort of pride that I could sing right along with them, without their ever knowing.

I owned this album for 10 years before deciding Petty must have other great albums...and I haven't found them. "Full Moon Fever" is truly a gem, one that I'm glad I found.

His best

This is clearly Petty's greatest work. Every song is a must listen to, and I mean EVERY SONG. He is a classic rock song writer who deserves the respect he gets.

Tom's best

What can I say? Tom found Jeff Lynne and the result was a masterpiece. Perhaps it was just breaking away from the familiarity of the Heartbreakers that inspired a flood of creativity. Whatever. Just listen to the simplicity of songs like "Free Falling" "I won't back down" and "Running down a dream." Every tune flows effortlessly into the next and Tom's humor keeps the whole album from becoming too serious. The true test of greatness? It still sounds as fresh today as it did in the 80s.
