Description: Toby Keith has never been shy, but on Unleashed the Oklahoman proves he has more in common with Charlie Daniels and Hank Williams Jr. than you might have thought. The headline-making hit single "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American)" will either impress you as a piece of jingoistic hooey or rally your fighting blood with its images ("the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist") of patriotic retaliation. The "eye for an eye" mood continues on "Beer for My Horses," a frontier-justice saga on which Willie Nelson duets. But after that, things start falling into the usual formula: a killer pop ballad ("Rock You Baby"), some smart-ass sexual grandstanding ("Who's Your Daddy"), and a few midtempo ruminations on life and love that catch the ear but ultimately prove forgettable. By the time he gets to "It Works for Me," in which Keith celebrates the virtues of country living ("If it's so good in the city / Why don't anybody smile?"), you'll swear it's a Bocephus CD in your player. Oh, you rowdy boys! --Alanna Nash

Reviews:

Toby Keith, A Real American!

The left and probably minorities and homosexuals will hate this album because it tells GOOD Americans how to deal with terrorism. We have to kick em' in the ass! The other songs on this album are okay, but are too liberal when it comes to drinking. There should be more songs like The Angry American. He should also stop doing songs with Willie Nelson, because he's a communist who favors anarchy and the plant drug, "Marijuana." My cousin wanted the new M&M's CD for his birthday, but after hearing the song "Mush" I knew that he wouldn't be getting THAT Red Lecture! I got him this instead, and I think he's coming around to it. Praise the Lord!

Toby Keith- a TRUE American.... Idiot!

I remember reading a book in 5th Grade called Stories from Wayside School where it had a particular passage that sums up Mr. America's attitude immensely:

"It's amazing how a person can be right all the time and yet still be wrong."

Words I live by to this day, thanks to people like this. Oh and a little message in closing to the music world of Nashville: You talk about how your wife/husband left you, how they did you wrong, how you're down and out, etc, etc, etc. Well, did you ever stop and wonder that the reason all of this might be IS BECAUSE YOU LIKE TO DRINK ALL THE TIME? Wow, what a crazy

concept!!!! (rolls eyes)

Bottom line, if you're looking for enlightenment, look elsewhere. And if you're looking for post 9/11 music, try Bruce Springsteen's The River.

See Ya!

Toby Kieth - Redneck and American

The album is awesome. If you're a Redneck, you'll dig it. The feeling of indignance he describes in "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" is something alot of us can relate to. If you don't agree with his music, the answer is simple: don't listen to it. For those of you that do like his music, rock your socks, man!
