Reviews:

Strong Male Vocalist

Ever since Toby Keith first made his debut, his strong, sensual voice has struck a chord with country music fans the world over. In Dream Walkin', Toby displays his talent at ballads, his voice sinking to the far depths of your soul. The sadness in his voice is a testimony to the hardships he has faced throughout the years, and helps you connect on a personal level with the singer. This CD also puts on display his comedic side, with "Double Wide Paradise" and "I Don't Understand My Girlfriend"...which most of us men can surely all relate to. It's easy to see (or hear) why Toby continues climbing the charts with all his singles, and you'll gain a fuller appreciation for the spectrum he can accomplish by attaining this CD.

The most innovative / creative album of Keith's

After a few albums that were more thna pretty fair, he concludes his work with Mercury Records with a bang. 'Dream Walkin' has muscle of a songwriter and a musician, with heart.

Perhaps the most interesting on the album here, is 'We Were In Love'. Looking in the past, when love was forever young, he builds up his vocals in such a tall order, and as his voice is strong and powerful, it does also smooth out to a softer man.

'Dream Walkin' has great guitar character, following again by his patient style, not rushing his vocals through.

The reality of just how hard life can get is 'Tired'. Perhaps as good as 'We Were In Love'...just so different. The acoustic gutiar is gloomy, like a rainy day, with no sun in sight.

My brother and I have a thing for 'Double Wide Paradise', a real good rocker. Not as good as thought is 'I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying'. His duet with Sting isn't the duet or song that the Brit man made himself before joining up with the big cowboy.

Overall, all of the songs carry Keith high. A lot of this album seems to let out all sides of Keith and it's perfect timing since his label decided to leave him out in the cold after this one. Now they're crying, with his last three albums selling much better than all his others. Still, this is his strongest writing and best innovation.

Toby Keith - Dream Walkin'

This is a top rate CD! His deep low voice works best on the ballads and this album's well filled with them. "You Don't Anymore", "Strangers Again", "Tired", and "Yet" are wonderful he sings those ballads quite effectively. Toby Keith also rocks well on "Jacky Don Tucker" with its tongue-in-cheek lyrics and lines like "He even cut a donut on the courthouse lawn". On the radio-friendly side, "We Were In Love" is a well-constructed tune with low verses and a growing chorus. Quite effective. Then we have "Dream Walkin'", a mid-tempo ditty that could be considered as the album's less effective song but Toby lifts it up above the average level with his passionate rendition. The duet with Sting, "I'm So Happy" is about two friends talkin' about one's divorce. Nice lyrics but Sting sounds like a fish out of water compared to Toby's voice. At the end of the album, we have a good swingin' tune, "I Don't Understand My Girlfriend", with funny lyrics about a guy trying his best to please his girlfriend but always ends up makin' a mistake. If you don't own anything by Toby Keith, this is a good place to start.
