Reviews:

The best solo vocals during the Ike days-BUY IT!

If you love Tina as a solo vocalist, and find it hard to get back into her career with Ike, the Ikettes, and so forth, BUT you would love to hear some good soul that rocks from Tina way before her monster solo album, Private Dancer, THIS is the one to get. Excellent. But , if you love Private Dancer best: get all the other solo Tina CD's first: `1) A--Private Dancer (with bonus tracks)1--B Simply the Best (buy both together if you're on a tight budget, although "the Best" includes some of Private Dancer, but some other hard-to-find CD songs 2) Twenty-four Seven (the two-disc version has a phenomenal performance from her last tour with this studio album); 3) Wildest Dreams, if you can find it, and afford it, get the TWO CD version, which includes some DYNAMITE versions on the commercial release of the single CD version; this is NOT an easy CD to get "into"; Tina seems to abandon rock here, to give you a glimpse of her soul, and all she had experienced to date (and this IS the album recorded BEFORE 24/7, it may turn out that this non-rock Tina CD (hard to believe for Tina) turns out to be a major masterpiece of jazz/blues vocals like Billie's "Lady in Satin" RADICALLY departs from swing orchestra and small group: Billie's Lady In Satin puts Billie in front of Ray Ellis's orchestra. It is a tribute to Billie, that her phrasing of some inane lyrics here, becomes tragic, for example, "Violets for My Furs." NO ONE but Billie (except Tina) could make you cry bullets with the lyrics: it's her phrasing, displaying all her life's troubles up to the year before her death, that make the whole album a monument. Similarly, although Wildest Dreams is sometimes overlooked, it may one day be considered the single Tina CD containing peformances dredged up from Tina's deepest heart, her experience of love, and viewpoint of the universe itself. 4) Live in Europe: 2 CDS here: Tina ROCKS; her cover of "Addicted to Love" will make you throw out the original: she rocks it to death; her band here is TOP-NOTCH; the timing and punctuation of the instruments is as tight as Muddy Waters' back-up on the "I'm Ready" original LP--and that is TIGHT! You could set the second hand of your watch on it!; 5) Foreign Affair (a minor miracle!); 6) Break Every Rule.
