Reviews:

Flawed, but very interesting...

Let's face it. The Stones have done better work than Their Satanic Majesties Request. And one can't help but notice this album's debt to Sgt. Pepper. Nonetheless, it's still a fairly solid effort, with some great songs. Citadel, Sing This All Together, She's a Rainbow, 2000 Man, and most especially, 2000 Light Years From Home are all amazing songs. Also, I'd like to point out to another reviewer that after 1970, the Stones made two fantastic albums, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St. (the latter often considered to be their finest effort), and in 1978 released another classic, Some Girls. Sure, the Stones were influenced by the Beatles, but what rock band wasn't? And if Bob Dylan hadn't come along, the Beatles wouldn't have started writing material that didn't concern love in the first place. So there.

great experiment... just great

This is a sort of a music that you can't fully appreciate it in every occasion or state of mind... if you understand me. I couldn't believe THIS is a Stones album, for a huge but not old Stones fan like me that was a shock: it is so strange, wierd that I loved it immediately! It grows on you... but remember: not for every occasion.

not the same old Stone's songs

Yeah maybe parts of this album are influenced directly by Sgt. Pepper, but so is everything in pop music since Sgt. Pepper. You can't blame the band for being swept up in psychedelia in 1967. What I think makes this album intersting is that it's not the same ol' "classic rock" Stones you hear on your local radio which, while great, historic and all that, have become almost R&R cliches.

Here's the greatest band in rock & roll doing something different and, whatever your tastes may be, there's value in that.
