Reviews:
A Definite "ESSENTIAL" for the trio and the decade
4 Top Ten singles ("Automatic", "Jump (For My Love)", "I'm So Excited", "Neutron Dance"), two Grammy Awards, and two American Music Awards make this album a "must" for fans of the sisters as well as those that want to fondly remember the early 80's when pop music ruled. Producer Richard Perry can be credited with providing the ladies with their seminal album, one that they, unfortunately, were unable to duplicate in commercial and critical success.
Automatic 1980's!
Today, I was glancing at all my CDs to see what I have and what I don't have. When I did, I found this album! I know I haven't played this CD for a few years so I played it and I was feeling very happy! This album immediately transported me back to the 1980's when music was really GOOD!
The opening seconds of "Automatic" (my favorite song from this album) brought lots of joy; I played it twice in a row! It may be the most well-constructed song and it's so catchy! Other songs like "Neutron Dance" and the riveting "I'm So Excited" will get you pumped up and ready to take on the day!
As an 80's child and growing up to listen to this kind of music (early 80s dance), it reminded me what a special group the Pointer Sisters are. "Break Out" may have been their most sold album, but they have also had other albums that were just as strong. From what I understand too, they may be one the most underrated groups of all-time.
Overall, it is an above-average album with lyrics included.
good songs, o.k. album!
I have to say right away that the Pointer Sisters are one of the most eclectic groups/artist I have come across! From country "Fairytales", from jazz to soul "Yes we can, can". The Break Out album is the pop album of pops for the Pointer Sisters, which isn't a bad thing. I must say that I do enjoy some tracks of this album: "Automatic", "Jump(For my love)" and "Telegraph your love". The album is what every album tried to be in the 80's "danceable" and Break Out succeeds, but the majority of the material is cheesy and bubble-gum. The fact that these are full grown women who use to sing adult contemporary soul and jazz, Break Out seems more of a "Sell Out"!
