Description: A great singles band that often got a little unraveled on its album-only epics, the Doors are predictably remembered as Deeper Artists than some of their (especially Jim Morrison's) pretensions merit. But those 45s really were great. They dominate this disc, with "Light My Fire" (the album version) and "Hello I Love You" banging by to complement the moodier "Riders on the Storm" (also at LP length) and a live "Roadhouse Blues" rescued from An American Prayer. Predictably, the record closes with a few other non-AM tracks, including "The End." But most of the real meat is in the stuff that made it to the jukeboxes. --Rickey Wright

Reviews:

Don't buy this.......please

This is a horrible compilation of of an amazing band. It is missing so many of their hits (peace frog, alambama song, backdoor man, the wasp, spanish caravan) the list goes on. If you want a cheap single disc collection of the doors' best stuff then get the very best of the doors (which isnt that great either.) Otherwise go with legacy, that is by far the best doors compilation out there. Even if you dont even know the doors that well and u only know a few of their songs, this is still not the right choice. The worst part about this album is the version of "The End" that is inlcuded. The only reason i didnt give it 1 star is because any cd that is all doors songs will be great. But this is an inexcusable collection.

I Love You Two Stars

This is one of the albums I wonder why I bought it. I'm actually not The Doors fan. I like some of the songs "Light My Fire", "Riders on the Storms", "Love Me Two Times", and "Break on Through". Those are all the songs I like made by The Doors. There's allright feeling in the songs but they sound so old and some of the songs are full of solos and they are too long. If I can choose, I'll choose Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath instead, not The Doors. The most awful song is "Roadhouse Blues (live)" but also "L.A. Woman" is a terrible one. "The Ghost Song" is a speech, not a song.

Stars: Break on Through, Love Me Two Times

Introducing, The Doors!!!

The Doors were a rock band in the late sixties and early seventies, that weren't around all that long, and didn't make a whole lot of albums in their six year run as a band. Due to organist Ray Manzarek and drummer John Densmore's love for jazz music, the musical art-form was somehow tangled into the blues and rock influences that were, The Doors.

Though mainly Jim Morrison's musical outlet, each musician had its own role in the band. Improvisation played a key role in the band, as demonstrated in songs as Light My Fire. Though most rock bands of the time had improvisation, such as guitar solos, The Doors each interacted with each other to deliver great improvisational solos.

Some miss the point and call this band, Jim Morrison & The Doors, when it is really, a band as a whole. No other musician at the time could of replaced any of the members in this band.

To the music on this cd:

You basically get all of their big hits here. Light My Fire, Hello I Love You, Love Me Two Times, Break On Through, Touch Me, etc. This IS a good place to START with The Doors. You get the gist of the popular side of The Doors, though to fully understand the band as they were, you will have to get the individual albums, which can be not as listener friendly as you would hope.

The Doors were enjoying commercial success right up until the death of singer Jim Morrison. It seemed to be over too fast, but luckily the six studio albums they recorded together are all remasterd and easy to maintain.

The Doors remain probaly within the top 10 most influential rock bands in history. The Doors' music has stood the test of time, and is quite popular in schools, and for teenagers today. I can speak for them.
