Description: The Temptations prospered by their gifts and their very name, which stood for the best of so much of what the soul-group tradition had to offer--standout lead vocalists, killer harmonies, and steps and suits that mortal men could only envy. By the '90s, though, the words "The Temptations" were as much a branding device as a guarantee of excellence. Fortunately, the five-CD
Emperors of Soul spends most of its time winding through the act's various changes of style and personnel; this is the group, after all, that confidently leapt from romance classics such as "My Girl" to the ultrafunky "I Can't Get Next to You" and the downright scary "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." Like all royalty, they're a fallible institution, but if it's a big, big box of Tempts you want,
Emperors is the one.

Reviews:
Four CDs of the Greatest Soul Ever And A Free Coaster!
You can't beat that with a stick!
Front to Back...
This Cd Collection starts off with unpolished boys and runs straight into matured manhood. Of course, a few of the Cd's are stronger than others, for instance the latter part of disc 1, all of disc 2,3 and the first half of 4 are my favorites. But that doesn't mean the others are weak or don't deliver. It's just my personal preference. You can not go wrong with this stellar musical set. It is a wonderful thing to travel with the Temps from muscial ducklings to the masters of the stage. Even with personnel changes they didn't miss a beat! They've made some memorable music and left a legacy that will endure!
These guys had mega talent! Check out the A Capella version of "My Girl" at the end of disc 2. Or listen to that guitar intro on "I know I'm losing." The best ever put on wax! Check out the gruttal singing on "I wish it would rain." Each disc offers the listener a treat. In my opinion "Just My Imagination" happens to be one of the best songs ever recorded! And Dennis' singing on "Papa was a rolling stone" is by far his best recording ever...although his performance on Cloud 9, is darn near perfect too.
And you know what, after all these years, I'm still moved by the 70's hit songs "Heavenly and Hey Girl." I just listen to them over and over. I guess there will never be another male group as prolific, classy and popular as the Temps. There was just something special about them. David, Eddie, Otis, Dennis, Richard, Ollie, Melvin, Paul and all the others that were once a part of this dynamic group! I say thank you from the bottom of my heart! Thank you...Thank you... And a special thank you to Smokey Robinson and Norman Whitfield...they kept these fellas supplied with some of the most memorable songs in music history!
