Description: Leon Russell's title track had already become a modern standard recorded by everyone from the Carpenters to Willie Nelson by the time the Tempts got to it on this 1975 disc. With the number of original group members shrunken by death and departure, it no doubt held plenty of resonance for those who carried on. The record's highlight, though, is "Shakey Ground," driven by P-Funk-ers Eddie Hazel and William "Billy Bass" Nelson. What remains is thoughtful, somewhat shallow, and not up to the level of innovation Motown colleagues Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, not to mention the Tempts themselves, had reached. A good album, if one that fails to meet its goal of true significance.

Reviews:
Beautiful. Just Beauitful.
This album has it all! Side 1 is (what I like to call) the "Funky" Side, While Side 2 is (what I like to call) the "Lover's" side. I don't have this on CD though, but I know Motown is pretty good about re-releasing the old albums. One of the few Companies that is like that.
Childhood memories
I remember this album, from my childhood. I am currently 34 years old. And, in 1975 this album was a staple, in my family's life. I recently brought this album on CD, just for the song "firefly", along with the title track. Although, this does not represent the genius of the original Temps lineup, it indeed was a good substitute. I wish that there was some artwork, that accompanied this project. But, I loved to watch the Gordy purple record lable, with the yellow arrow, spin around the record player. Till this day, that symbol represents good, soulful music, to me.
PEACE.

Fantastic Album!
Listen, I know all the Tempts' works and there's something very special about this album. The producer worked his fingers to the bone - every song is tight. Consistently EXCELLENT songs, instead of a few top-ten hits and the rest hit and miss. My favorites are "The Prophet" and "Firefly". Melvin Franklin has a voice like none other, and he stars in these two great tunes. Phenominal harmonies and unexpected sounds at every turn. No wonder this album did not sell as well as prior Tempts albums - it simply is not so 'commercial'. But I love it. A worthy addition to any collection.
The group that affected the social order the most
No other group has sung songs that have affected the social order during the 60s and 70s as much as the Temptations: Cloud Nine, Runaway Child, Glasshouse, Ball of Confusion, a Message from a Black Man, Run Charlie Run, Papa was a Rollinig Stone, Masterpiece, the Prophet, Hurry Tomorrow, Plastic Man, Law of the Land, and a thousand more. Someone needs to write a thesis, dissertation, or a book about the influence that The Temptations have had on America, particularly black America. No one could write the songs like Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong who did not receive any credit in the documentary of the History of Rock & Roll, a desperate shame; and nobody could sing the songs of Whitfield and Strong like Dennis Edwards and Eddie Kendricks. Perhaps the greatest group of all times. Gotta go!
The Temps Delivers
This is one of the best of all Temptations albums of all times. The albums does not have one bad track on it. The music arrangements are tight. Side a (Before CD's came out) was the dance side opening with "Happy People", "Glasshouse" is another monster groove. "Shady Ground" of course was penned down by the late Ed Hazel of Funkadelic. His guitar playing along with Billy Bass (one of P-funks Bass player) kicks butt. The B-side was the more mellow side with Dennis Edwards singing "A Song For You" will leave you breathless. THe entire album is just excellent. A must buy. GET IT!
