Description: Most posthumous albums are shrouded in a sense of morbid nostalgia and grim curiosity. In Sublime's case, there was also some cruel irony to contend with: the California nuevo-punk outfit's promising self-titled major-label debut and commercial breakout was released barely a month after frontman Brad Nowell's death from a heroin overdose--and their de facto demise. But such was the Long Beach band's longtime following that raiding the vaults, however sparse, was inevitable. Released 18 months after Nowell's death,
Second Hand Smoke more than lived up to its title, cobbling together a collection of outtakes from their debut and padding them out with (sometimes multiple) remixes of old tracks like "Doin' Time," "April 29," and the Gwen Stefani duet, "Saw Red." There's a standout cover of Bob Marley's "Trenchtown Rock," but a lot of the rest feels like the incomplete discards and second (or third) choices they obviously were.

Reviews:
I Didn't Bother
I'm a BIG Sublime fan but I just didn't bother with this one.All it is is just remixes and cuts.DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY UNLESS YOU WAN'T TO!!!!!!!!
it's really good
This album is for anyone who enjoyed 40 oz to Freedom, Greatest Hits, or even the self-titled cd. This is probably better for the hard-core Sublime fans, though. Because it has some tracks where Bradley is just freestyling or going off on some Marley tune(Trenchtown Rock). I personally love the reggae influenced songs the best, so I think this is a great cd. If the only Sublime cd you've heard is the self-titled one, I suggest you try 40 oz to Freedom. ENJOY!
Not good?
anyone whose says this album is not good is out of it sure if the only album you know by sublime is the selftitle album this one is going to sound different thats because they took songs from other albums this a greatest hits album in a way. So if you say this isn't their best you don't know what your talking about. All of sublimes albums are the best. You crazy fools
Sadness and sorrow!
Look ya'll I was looking through my friends dads collection of promo CDs from when he was running his own radio station, anyways so what do I spy? The original promo for 40 oz to freedom, Boring Nation, and a CD that I have never heard of or seen before. It had the old sublime symbol in a circle with a red line going through it. Behind the red line was a tobasco bottle. Unfortunately the ink that they used to prin the cover of the CD (Not the insert the actual CD) was defective and the reason that they are so rare is because it will seep through and make the CD unplayable, unless you game doctor them! Unfortunately the Game DR. rubs away the very bottom layer of te CD thus negating any value they had, but who cares they are all awesome! Sublime is wicked, R.I.P. Bradley Nowell!
Sublime - 'Second Hand Smoke' (MCA)
'Second Hand Smoke' is strictly previously unreleased material and remixed versions of the band's tunes from earlier CD's.A couple of tracks I thought sort of stood out were "Saw Red","Chick On My Tip","Get Out","Drunk Drivin'" and "Legal Dub".Basically,if you like their other releases, you should like this.To the outsider,it's an okay disc to check out when you can.
Sublime... one of the greatest bands ever...
For everyone who is familiar with Sublime, we all know how wonderfully talented Bradley Nowell was. (RIP) It's an awful shame things ended the way they did back in 1995, but his legacy lives on. I meet Sublime fans all over the place since it's the type of music that brings people together. Those who appreciate the raw talent of this band recognize others who do as well.
All of their albums are great... my 2 personal favorites are 40 oz. to Freedom and Sublime Live. I have all of them, and it's tough to pick favorites.
If you like old 311, you'll like Sublime. 311 first came out when Sublime did, and after the passing of Bradly, I personally think that 311 saw the popularity of Sublime's style music and kind of ran with it. Don't get me wrong, I love 311 too- I've seen them in concert (awesome!)... but I do think that they sort of copied SOME of Sublime's style.
In any event, Sublime was an extremely talented band and any CD of theirs is well worth the $$.
