Description: A good overview of Sting's radio hits and popular album tracks with only one major omission ("Mad About You"),
Fields of Gold also offers three previously-unreleased songs. "This Cowboy Song" and "When We Dance" appear on no other album, while "We'll Be Together" is an alternate version. The import version of this collection offers a substantially different (and expanded) track listing, dropping "Fortress Around Your Heart," "Be Still My Beating Heart," and "Why Should I Cry for You"; and adding "Mad About You," "Nothing 'Bout Me," "Seven Days," "It's Probably Me," "Love is the Seventh Wave," and "Demolition Man."

Reviews:
Excellent retrospective.
As much as as I feel that this collection came out a little early in his solo career, it is a fine CD that compiles his hit singles from 1985 through 1993 along with three previously unreleased tracks.
My favorite of the albums from this time is a toss-up between "Ten Sumner's Tales" and "Dream of The Blue Turtles". "iF yOU Love Somebody Set Them Free" is my favorite track from his "Blue Turtles" album having a really sophisticated blend of pop, jazz, and blues with a great beat and incredible musicianship. After nearly 20 after it was released, it doesn't sound a bit dated even by today's standards.
The songs from Ten Sumner's Tales have also aged very well after more than a decade since release. "Fields of Gold" is one of the sexiest soul ballads of the 1990s and one of his greatest ballads Sting has ever written in his career having a beautiful blend of joy and sadness blended into a hauntingly beautiful song. "If I Ever Lost My Faith In You" is another unforgettable classic from that album as well.
"Fragile" from Nothing Like The Sun" is sheer beauty unrivalled by almost everything He's done ever since. It is utterly stunningly beautiful.
This is a highly recommended collection to get if you want to introduce someone to Sting's solo work. It's worth the purchase.
1994 : Included then 2 new songs, today 2 more classics.
"Fields Of Gold - The Best Of Sting" is a safe buy (or should be) for all true musiclovers who has enjoyed some of Stings' classic hit-songs, and yes, I really do think this collection manage to bring out the essential of the great composer, poet and performer.
I have no idea how many times I have listened to this great collection-release - but it can only be compared to number of times that I have daydreamed to "The Soul Cages" and the just as fabolous "Ten Summoners' Tales".
All I can say is "Thank you, A&M for this release
- and thank you Sting for doing it even more interesting."
These are the songs that haunts me - and I am not trying to act poetic here, but these songs really do!
And I must admit that my favorite albums (so far) were released in the years before this collection (and including it of course) - this is Sting at his best, no doubt. He had a younger, and more "fresher" voice back then - but hey, that's just time. I still love Stings' work (and voice)!
The important thing is that after this release Sting has only become bigger and bigger - and for his age this is incredible, and I can't wait to see what his next project will sound like.
Highly recommended!
(The 2 "new" songs are When We Dance and This Cowboy Song)
Inquiry...
I have a quick question to all you music fans. Can someone please tell me what is the name of the female artist that also sang the same lyrics of "Fragile"? I'm not sure if she sang it before or after Sting did, but does anyone know her name?
Many thanks & I love Sting anyway...
