Reviews:

Mindblowing debut of a great Welsh band

I discovered the Stereophonics back in '98, after seeing their Cardiff concert on TV. A phew weeks later I decided to buy their second album 'Performance & Cocktails', which was amazing. This album made me want to check out their debut as well.

This debut, 'Word Gets Around', turned out to be one of the best debut albums I had ever heard. It consists of incredible tunes such as 'A Thousand Trees', 'Looks Like Chaplin', 'Local Boy In The Photograph', 'Not Up To You', 'Too Many Sandwiches', 'Billy Daveys Daughter' and my absolute favorite 'Traffic'.

Too bad the Phonics kind of lost this 'magic' with their 3rd album 'Just Enough Education To Perform', which seems to miss out on the rocky edge. Word Gets Around will always be my favorite Phonics album, no matter what. To anyone who'd like to check out a Phonics album... don't look further. You found it!

Not their best but beats JEEP to a pulp. Good Rocky Anthems!

Stereophonics are a band with potential for greatness. This is demonstrated by their debut, Word Gets Around, very clearly. It is full of sing-a-long rocky anthems ('A Thousand Trees', 'More Life In A Tramp's Vest', 'Local Boy In The Photograph') and has a few good emotional acoustic tracks ('Traffic', 'Not Up To You', 'Same Size Feet'). Lead singer Kelly Jones draws on local small-town subjects and everyday life for his touchingly simple lyrics, and while he's no Thom Yorke, they're good, and he can also certainly write one hell of a tune. He also has a potentially very emotive voice, though of late since this album many Stereophonics tracks have been boring drab rather than emotional. Towards the end of this album (tracks 9-12) the quality drops, and there was better to come on Performance and Cocktails, but this smashes latest effort Just Enough Education to Perform to the ground, no contest.

they suck

they suck they only have 1 good song and it is more life in a tramp's vest and that is the only good song out of all the songs on all of their cd's
