Reviews:

Saxon can do much better than this

It's a mystery to me how anyone can give this album 5 stars! But since that clearly can be done, I just wonder how many stars are you handing out to "Denim and leather" and "Strong arm of the law"?

"Forever free" is a mediocre Saxon album comparable with "Solid ball of rock"". It's not as radio oriented as some of their other albums (when Saxon tried to break into the American market) but it's far from the heights shown on the masterpiece "Denim and leather" or the more recent and excellent "Unleash the beast". On this album, you'll find a couple of good songs, especially "Forever free", but you'll also get to hear a lot of average tunes. The production is rather bad (at least on my not remastered copy). Although I like the fact that Biff and his gang refuse to give up, I can't give this release anything higher than 2 stars.

Saxon Releases Another Cd Full Of Red Hot Metal!

Released in 1992, "Forever Free" is yet another superb cd full of red hot metal. Released several years after Saxon's excellent "Solid Ball Of Rock" cd, this could easily be one of Saxon's best releases of the 90's. Starting with the title track "Forever Free" you know this cd is going to cook. Biff Byford's strong vocals, Graham Oliver & Paul Quinn's amazing exchange of lead guitar licks, Nibbs Carter's pounding bass and Nigel Glockler's drum kit play make NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) veteran's, Saxon one of the most energetic bands to emerge from from the late 70's. Still going strong, as represented in this cd, Saxon's brand of metal is no more evident than in these standout cd cuts: "Forever Free", "Hole In The Sky", "Get Down And Dirty", "One Step Away", "Can't Stop Rockin'" and "Nighthunter". Saxon released four more excellent cd's throughout the 90's including "Dogs Of War", "The Eagle Has Landed-Part Two", "Unleash The Beast" and "Metalhead". Midway through the 90's lead guitarist Graham Oliver left the group and was replaced by Doug Scarrat, another excellent guitarist. If you enjoy listening to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Whitesnake, etc. then you'll love this release.
