awesome rock
i have been listening to saxon since 1982,and even though i have many different bands that i like, saxon enters my soul like no others.they play there music with passion that makes me feel like im there. i would have liked to have seen better consistency in there recordings as far as sound goes, but i will take what i can get. power, strong arm, wheels, denim and last but not least crusader are probably the best of the saxon collection. love the band, and i like to just let them rock!
Good, but they've done better.
The title track to this album is my all-time favorite Saxon song, but I think "Wheels of Steel" is a much better album. Get that first, then move on to this one.
One of their best
This is a must-have in the metal community! The remaster sounds great & the tunes are awesome! I would also like to say that the person who made the comment about "Suzy Hold On" was right on the money! I too miss that track because that version is far superior to the earlier one. I think the reason for this is that it was only on the American album. "Midas Touch" was on it in the rest of the world (correct me please if I'm wrong). I am only glad to have a remaster of this at all. Looking for the new Crusader remaster out any day on Axekiller also! The Wolf
The Best Saxon Album is Glorious
THE POWER & THE GLORY (1983)
It took me awhile to finally get it but i was glad i did because it was the best thing they ever recorded. The first thing about this album is that the lyrics (for the mostpart)are a step above that from previous albums like WHEELS OF STEEL or DENIM AND LEATHER. The song topics are diverse this time, ranging from subjects like vikings(Warrior), E.T.(Watching the Sky), the moon-landing(The Eagle Has Landed), supernatural occurances(The Midas Touch) and soilders in battle(the title track) to the standard Saxon motorcycle song's(Redline)and crowd rocker's(This Town Rocks) that they always put on their albums. The title track kicks off the album and it is one of the best album starters ever, it literaly kicks the record into overdrive. Like mentioned before, the songwritting is diverse this time instead of just songs about highways, motorcycles, and rocking the crowd which plaged every Saxon album up untill this one (not that it was a bad thing). THE POWER&THE GLORY is a exellent early british metal album and what i belive to be Saxon's swan song because after this they would start relesing albums aimed at the american market and the music was just not in the same league as this, thank god they started to make a metal come back in the mid 90's. Saxon is a very underrated group, they never enjoyed the commercial success in America like their peers did (Iron Maiden, Def Lepard, Judas Preist) butIMHO they were the definition of the NWOBHM wave which was being lead by the aformentioned bands. Certainly they could write catchy tunes while retaining the heavy metalic edge to it, but they were never really accepted in to America like the others were. If Biff is reading this, don't take it personaly, many great groups never made it big in America, what do we Americans know about music anyway? look at the crap that's considered popular and "in" today to see what i mean, christ, all you had to do was wacth the last Grammys to see the abyssmal puke we have for musical 'TALENT'.
This Isn't MUSIC!
This is saxon!...and boy...they s*ck! This album isn't even commecial...it is that bad...only Eagle Has Landed can be listened to without grinding!
