Description: Savage Garden's songs are of innocence and urgency. On the Australian pop duo's second album,
Affirmation, love is either a broken thing or a newly exploding one, passion and obsession taking over after a spin on the dance floor. At the same time, when Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones proclaim that they want to "live like animals," they're not planning anything too raw, too Reznorish: they just want that childlike lack of guile. This approach, taken with a total lack of irony and with large doses of appealing melodicism, led to multiplatinum sales for the act's debut, and there's no reason to think that
Affirmation won't be similarly accepted. Sometimes a bit too goodhearted for its own good--the title track's wide-eyed sentiments might make even Stuart Smalley smirk--the disc's best moments are hard to dislike when taken on their own terms.

Reviews:
"I've gotta be chained to you"
Well I've had this CD for AGES, but decided to write a review now! I've recently been listening and I'm a new member to Amazon, so here goes!
Well basically, it's one of the best CD's EVER!! I recommend everyone to get it, apart from the rap/r'n'b/heavy metal lovers. This song has got Pop, Dance, Rock in it, and elements of Ballads.
1) Affirmation - The first song in the CD about the meanings of life - "I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you" - basically about what Darren and Daniel think about life. A great upbeat song but gets slightly repetitive 9/10
2) Hold me - A mid-tempo song, about holding someone tonight, a nice slow Pop-ish song, with lovely guitars 8/10
3) I knew I loved you - A really sweet slow song, which can make you cry pretty easily. It's got a slow rhythm, and gentle guitars. However, it's pretty old now but still great 8/10
4) The Best thing - Awww, this one's a really sweet upbeat lively song. It starts off quite pop-ish then goes into a heavy, almost seductive bass line. The verse is pretty different as well, in the same seductive tone, and the chorus goes into a great dance tune 9/10
5) Crash and burn - Another pretty lively song. It starts off slowly then goes into a sweet/fast chorus. "Let me be the one you call, if you jump I'll break your fall, lift you up and fly away with you unto the night." Such sweet lyrics!! 9/10
6) Chained to you - OMG I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! It's my favourite song on the ENTIRE CD and sorry about the exclamation marks and capital letters, but I am TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG!!!! I can't stop playing it!! It's got the best heavy bass at the beginning and moves onto guitars and bass, into a rock tune. The reason I like this song? The power of: Seduction. Yeah, I know, pretty stupid, but I love the words, and music - "passion, desire intense, urgency" - *wink wink* The whole song (to put it bluntly) is about making love (or even more bluntly: sex) talking about magic, and um...getting carried away. The music is soo captivating and I'm totally in love with this song. As my best friend said: "This song leaves you with the feeling of satisfaction and feeling dirty." (not that I disagree with her!! *winks some more*) 11/10!
7) The Animal Song - This song is about how animals are more human-like than humans. How animals are free etc. Quite an upbeat song, with bongo drums to create a "jungle" feel. 9/10
8) The lover after me - I wouldn't quite call this pop, it's more Soft rock. A gentle beat and synthesisers heard softly in the background. It's pretty cute, like Hold Me. 8/10
9) Two beds and a coffee machine - Ok, yeah weird title I know. But it's about relationships and quite slow. It can easily make you cry, or completely cheer you up. This is more of a ballad song. 8/10
10) You can still be free - Slow and sad, and another ballad, only it's more of a power ballad. I love the lyrics and drums, but Darren's falsetto is slightly irksome 8/10
11) Gunning down romance - OoßWhat more can I say but this? The most heaviest bass line in the CD, very slow and powerful, but very sad. It's got an extremely sad, moody feel to it, and it can easily make you cry. Very different, but long, which is good. Warning: Don't listen to it if you've broken up with someone, it is tres tres muy muy depressing!! 10/10
12) I don't know you anymore - A pretty good song, but quite slow. Sad, and a piano take up most of the music, accompanied with strings in the background. Could do with more instruments, but the simplicity is what keeps it so mellow, I guess 7/10
Basically a must buy, you have to get it, unless you're a Rap/R'n'b/Heavy Metal lover. But who knows? You people might like it! Expand your horizons!! A song to fit every mood, whether it's sad, happy/bouncy, seduced (cough), crazy or romantic.
Amazing C.D.!
Colorful pictures and realistic poop photos. The book starts off with a picture of an elephant and the poop of an elephant. The saying is An Elephant makes a big poop. Then it goes to a mouse and his type of poop.
Then a page devoted to whether a camel does two hump poops or one and we have a page of fish and birds, Another two pages of animals shown from their behinds with their poops. Can you identify which animal goes with which poop? The book tells you there are different shapes, sizes and smells to poop.
There are two pages devoted to a picture of a snake asking which is the snake's behind. My son spent a long time tracing the snake with his fingers when he came to these pages. He loves snakes, and we had one on our front porch not too long ago. Wonder if his poop is still out there, now that I know what it looks like?
The page my son breezed over shows a man with a pipe reading the paper, a boy sitting on a toilet, a boy on a duck potty and then the most realistic poop picture in the whole book, a baby sitting on the floor wailing with its legs in the air with its hands holding the legs and the poop sitting there in the diaper for me to see.
I would quickly turn that page too. You see how kittens like to clean up after themselves and a rhino pays no attention to his poop. One of the last pages is a boy showing his duty in the toilet, two turds to be exact, and ready to flush it to the great beyond. The next two pages has animals eating in a line from the Giraffe to the boy at the table . Turn the page and there are the same animals lined up along with the boy and their duties left behind. And of course, the saying is Everyone Poops.
My only regret is they do not show the boy putting on a pull up. But they did not have them in Japan in 1977 and the book was translated into English. This is a book for the kids who have yet to be toilet trained or are in the process. I think it is geared towards the age group of 3-5 and up for special needs kids.
Another five stars up...
Just like every other reviewer, we all agree that Savage Garden is just...amazing. Their music truly does comes from heaven. Every piece on here is just...astounding and brilliant...absolutely heart warming. Sincerely, God bless Australia :D
