Reviews:

....buh

i love rush. 2112 was awesome, moving pictures was awesome, power windows sucked hard. they went WAAAY too heavy on the keyboards and stuff. i know progressive. i love progressive. progressive can be done without that extreme amount of synthesizing.

Keyboard washed lackluster effort.

While I ardently defend "Grace Under Pressure" from criticism for its difference in sound from earlier Rush albums, this one is really largely indefensible. "Power Windows" opens great, with the fun, rocking "Big Money", which has more drive and energy than anything the band's done in ages, some great funky bass playing, killer guitar work from Lifeson, and a powerful lead vocal from Geddy Lee.

But the album goes downhill after this, sadly. The rest of the album in general is just lackluster-- "Manhattan Project" is ok and "Mystic Rhythms" is actually quite good, but songs like "Marathon", "Middletown Dreams", and well, virtually everything else on here are all ok, but none of them feel inspired, or particularly interesting.

This is really an album for completionists and fans only, everyone else should skip this one.

This albumn is different even from Grace Under Pressure, which was much like Signals with the heavy syntesiezer music(nothing wrong with that in my book). A lot of the songs have a very long interlude with progressive bass work by Geddy Lee. Alex's gitarwork was much like Fleetwood Mac's gitarist in this albumn. It had a hard yet southern feel to the sound when he played. Yet I doubt Alex saw it that way. Geddy's synth has been toned down a bit. One song, Emotional Director has some of the tightest percussion work in the interlude; the signiture and epitome of Neil Peart. Awsome stuff. Big Money odviously reflects the 80's as a whole. Mystic Rythems' lyrics is, well, mystical like in older songs. This is the first albumn that I bought current(back in 85). Everything else I bought, at that time, was crafted before I knew of Rush.
