Punk's Beginning! Hey Ho Let's Go!
Pure Punk at its best. Play this cd LOUD! So many classics I don't know where to start. The best from the godfathers of punk. And yes the Ramones started before any punk band!!!!
Ramones rule....
Firstly, this album is great and you should buy it. That's pretty much common knowledge.
Secondly: "An unprecedentedly perfect musical expression of punk attitude, effectively conveyed without cuss words. The experience of listening to this album gets increasingly rich with each successive listen.
BTW, listen with care because this can fire you up for fighting."....
Solid debut album
Ramones (1976.) Ramones' first album.
In the mid-late seventies, there were a ton of punk groups fast coming onto the musical scene. Although the vast majority of these groups were emerging from the United Kingdom, there were a good share of them coming from the United States as well. By far the most popular of these American classic punk groups was the Ramones. The group took its name from Paul Ramon, the pseudonym that former Beatle Paul McCartney used when checking into hotels. Over the years, the Ramones have built a strong reputation for themselves - one that remains true to this day. It was in April of 1976 that the group released their self-titled debut album. Read on for my review of it.
If you're looking for classic punk rock, you've come to the right place. This album serves up track after track of pure classic punk rock excellence. The band's first truly big hit, Blitzkrieg Bop, can be found on this release. The song has gone down in history as a classic, and this is where it was originally released. Other Ramones classics, including Judy Is A Punk and Beat On The Brat, can also be found here. But, as with pretty much any band's material, some of the finest tracks featured here are the most underrated ones. A good example of this is the excellent Havana Affair. The band even shells out a cover of the Chris Montez classic oldie, Let's Dance. Admittingly, a few of these songs sound a bit redundant (hence the four star rating), but that doesn't mean this isn't an excellent album. If you're new to the band, what better place to start than their first album?
This album was recently remastered and rereleased on Rhino Records. And Rhino Records is a company that never fails to please when it comes to compilations/reissues/etc. The reissue of this albun is no exception. In addition to widely expanded liner notes, there are a ton of bonus tracks! These are mostly demo versions of the album's tracks, and single versions. Casual fans or newbies may not be too drawn in by these tracks, but die-hards are really going to be able to appreciate them.
In conclusion, the first Ramones album is a damn good album. If you're a fan of the band, or just a fan of classic punk rock in general, you'd be doing yourself a real favor buying this album. Just make sure you buy the reissue so that you get the expanded liner notes and track listing!
Top Ten Rock Album
This is one of the top ten rock albums of the last 25 years. It's a raw, influential masterpiece. This is the punk rock that started it all. Make sure you get the recently remastered version with the bonus tracks. Then do the same with Ramones Leave Home, and Rocket To Russia. After that, you're on your own.
