Lacks preparation and post-production
I am an avid Rainbow fanatic. This album does exactly match up to "On Stage". Well , I am amusician invvolved in recording and I know that not all gigs are at 100%. This release is a typical case. There are mistakes in the songs and Blackmore going off on his tangents and Dio not quite reaching the bar he set.
I have waited for years/decades for the release of "Stargazer" by Rainbow with Dio. When I finally heard it I wished I had never heard it and now I know why it was never released. Dio is currently,(2003) doing it on his tour and his band did an outstanding job (with Doug Aldrich).
I suggest that a completist get this, but for a great release get "On Stage" instead
Live in 4 different german cities
Thats what this should be called, for thats what it is. %80 of the songs on this album can be found on the "On Stage" album, which, mind you, is all from the SAME show. it gets two stars for "star gazer" and thats it becuase "do you close your eyes" is just a average song and all of the rest sound exacty like they do on "On Stage". The main probablem with this is that its all taken from sevral different live shows and it sounds kind of stapled together unlike "On Stage" which is a smooth atmosheric, consistant live experience. How many people do you know that have been to a concert? most likely they will tell you about what songs were done that night and what experiences thay had ON THAT NIGHT, not sevral nights scattered across the country. just get ON STAGE, it blows this boot leg quality recording to hell.
Rainbow - 'Live In Germany' (Spitfire)
How many times has this 2-CD/100 minute title been reissued?Does anybody know?I can see as to WHY it's been repeatedly released time after time. It's nothing short of top notch '70's hard rock performed by the classic Rainbow line-up of Blackmore/Dio/Bain/Carey/and Powell.I believe I used to have this on 8 track years ago.I cannot honestly remember the last time I heard the killer cuts like "Kill The King","Sixteenth Century Greensleeves" and "Stargazer"(I know I've heard Dio play that while out on tour before).Thoroughly enjoyed the extended guitar and keyboard noodling during "Man On The Silver Mountain".Great audio document of a tour that'll NEVER take place again,as it did here.So be sure to check it out when you get the chance. Will certainly remain in my current rotation stack.
Rainbow brilliance!!!
This is a great album, showcasing Rainbow at its best!!! The masterful playing of Ritchie Blackmore, and the awe-inspiring vocals make this one of the best live albums I have ever come across. This is the full potential of music; the best musicians, in the best band, writing the best songs. Its wonderful, this particular lineup gives you the ability to fully apreciate the song writing and melodies of such an amazing band. A must have for any fan of true musicianship!!!!!
