Reviews:

Be nice

This album is getting a lot of critisism for not being 'hard; enough. Powder finger were never meant to be heavy rock! They're more alternative rock than anything else so if you're into heavy stuff, layoff and be nice. This album is more rock than Odessy no.5 but i still prefer Odessy no.5

Good Stonesy/Black Crowes-style Hard Rock!

Powderfinger's "Vulture Street" is a good album of old time Rolling Stones/Black Crowes-style Hard Rock with maybe a little bit of an INXS, and Hair-Metal influence. One of the ballads is also a bit like Elton John composition-wise. Powderfinger's lead vocalist sounds a lot like the lead vocalist of the Black Crowes; but Powderfinger has a slicker styled lead guitarist than either the Stones or the Black Crowes; he reminds me a little of the Cult's Billy Duffy or Mick Ronson style-wise. There are some tracks on the album where things get a little bit slow, but six of these songs are excellent old time Hard Rock. Refreshing when compared to some of the stuff that passes for music on the radio these days.

I have been converted

For a long time i hated Powderfinger. I hated them without listening to any of their albums. What a wise chap i was. So Vulture Street for me was the first 'finger CD i had listened too and i have to say along with Jeff Buckleys Grace this is my favourite album of all time.
4 of the first 5 songs on the album are singles, all of them worthy of being number one. Seriously. This album rocks and rocks hard with tracks like Rockin' Rocks, (Baby) I've got you on my mind and Since You've Been Gone the early stand outs. Sunsets is without a doubt the song of the summer, its feel good lyrics coupled with some seriously wicked riffs make it enjoyable from start to finish.
Pockets displays the full range of Bernard Fannings' songwriting skills while the closer, A Song Called Everything remains for me the stand out track.

This is a great rock album free of all the commercialised mumbo jumbo that usually comes with the anticipation of an album.
Don't be a doubter or a hater of this band like i was. Get it and get it now.
