Description: There's a rule in commercial pop: don't bite the hand that feeds you. Translation: If you're getting love on TRL, it's best to leave well enough alone and tinker only slightly with the sound that pays your bills. So you have to give Pink a whole heap of credit. The Philly-raised songbird may have made her rep with infectious and rugged pop-R&B hits like "There You Go" and the remake of "Lady Marmalade," but like the fuchsia coif she once sported, that sound is gone. In its place is a more driving alt-rock attack, liberally laced with late-night blues and heartfelt lyrics that, while they sometimes come off like diary entries (the simplistic bon mot "Your pain is painful" in "Family Portrait"), are clearly Pink's own thoughts. Helping Pink express her inner Alanis are Dallas Austin, who produced the insistent rocker "18 Wheeler," and former 4 Non Blonde Linda Perry, whom Pink has resurrected from one-hit-wonder status. Mixing up thumping beats ("Get the Party Started") with folksy confessionals, Pink's potent vocals and her honest determination make this a risk worth hearing. This limited-edition version of the album boasts a bonus DVD that includes videos and live performances. --Amy Linden

Reviews:

Amazing!

Pink's sophomore album "Missundaztood" showcases her troubled life growing up. The result? A great pop/light rock CD that shows she's not a manufactured, cookie-cutter pop star.

In "Family Portrait," she talks about the fights her parents had when she was younger and surprisingly, it's a very good and meaningful song with a cool beat. "Misery" features legendary Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler. He definitely adds to this blues/jazz type song. "18 Wheeler" is my favorite. It's about telling someone you can hurt me, put me down and "run over me with your 18 wheeler truck," but I'll just get right back up. It really has a positive message. The first single from this album, "Get The Party Started," is a cool dance track, but if it's played over and over, it can get a bit annoying. "Don't Let Me Get Me" is about not liking who you are and how sometimes you wish you could be someone else. "Just Like A Pill" is awesome! It's my second favorite track on the record.

Overall, "Missundaztood" is a wonderful album because Pink wrote all of the songs on here (with the exception of "Get the Party Started," "Lonely Girl" and "Misery") and she only sings about stuff she's dealt with in life. It's a lot different from her 2000 debut, "Can't Take Me Home" because it was mostly pop/R&B music. This time, Pink does it all -- rock, R&B, some pop and even blues.

This limited edition version of the album makes it even better. You get the CD and then you get a bonus DVD with Pink's videos for "Family Portrait" and "Don't Let Me Get Me" and two performances ("Numb" and "Family Portrait").

Good Cd

This second album has Pink do a 360 from her last album to a pop rock album as opposed to her "There You Go" , "Most Girls" , "You Make Me Sick" album, now here she is singing stronger tunes about her life and people around her that she just doesnt wanna deal with. This is a great cd to listen to when you are mad at someone or do not wanna deal with problems especially when you are angry. "Like A Pill", "Get The Party Started" , "Don't Let Me Get Me" , and "Family Portrait" are some of the highlights on this album. The DVD is fun too, it has live performances which surprised me becasue i did not know she could sing that well and two bonus videos. I admit in my "Don't Let Me Get Me" video loses part of the sound near the beggining of the song as if the sound drops. Other than that this is a great buy for your money. The DVD alone is also sold if you already have the album, as a DVD single.

You won't believe how good this is...

...you really won't. The dance floor anthem, "Get The Party Started" in no way prepares you for the power and breadth of this album. Don't mistake this effusiveness for fan worship. This is genuinely a terrific album. You get the feeling you're watching an artist stretch, take a few risks, and just hit one out of the park. It's easy to see teen pop fans liking a few tunes on this record, but I think the modern rock, "Red Hot Chili Peppers"-type fan would be surprised at how much they would enjoy this record. Many of these songs seriously rock, and her lyrics often have an Eminem-like immediacy and veracity to them.
The extra DVD is pure gravy, with similarly impressive videos. You should buy this for the album, and consider the DVD as dessert.
