Description: Wish You Were Here is a song cycle dedicated to Pink Floyd's original frontman, Syd Barrett, who'd flamed out years before: two grimly funny songs about the evils of the music business ("By the way, which one's Pink?"), and two long, touching ones about the band's vanished friend. The real star of the show, though, is the production: sparkling, convoluted, designed to sound deeply oh-wow under the influence--and pretty great sober too--with David Gilmour getting lots of space for his most lyrical guitar playing ever. And, though the album is big and ambitious, even bombastic, it somehow dodges being pretentious--the Barrett tributes are honest and heartfelt, beneath all the grand gestures and stereophonic trickery. --Douglas Wolk

Reviews:

a floydian masterpiece

wish you were here is an absolutely delightful album to hear.it is one of the greatest rock albums along with the wall and contains my favourite songs shine on you crazy diamond and wish you were here.very very highly recommended.an absolute must have in every rock fans collection.five stars.please ignore the one star reviews and avoid lousy groups like bay city rollers and abba.thanks

Pink Floyd's greatest album no questions asked

This Pink Floyd album called Wish You Were Here is an absolutely Killer album to hear. To not like this album is blasphemy! Songs like Shine On You Crazy Diamond and the title cut kick serious ass. I give this album TEN STARS and to give it less would cause me to go off on a evil spree!

The worst album of 1975?

Cool album cover, though. Alas, the music stinks to high heaven. As your trusty reviewer, it is my duty to tell you that if you're looking for great music from the 1970s, you have only TWO options: Bay City Rollers or ABBA.
