Description: Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band.

Reviews:
An Assorted Piece for Lunatics
Darkside of the Moon is considered and in my opinion is one of the best albums of all time. The melodies, harmonies, rythmic patterns, and song structures are amazing throughout this whole album. But the true measure of a great album is how it can relate to you the listener. The album "speaks" to you, about everything, from growing up and growing older, and death to conformatiy, war, and even the evils that money and power bring too you.
This album is amazing, a 42 minute song that takes you places you will never dream off. It's set up like a play, and is and amazing conceptual album. The songs are interwoven so perfectly, and the mastery of the insturments is so great on this cd. Its phenomonal.
Song List:
Speak/Breathe: 9/10 a great track, awsome pedal steel guitar, w/ great effects. Sounds very calm and laid back, gets you into the album
On the Run: 9/10 a very interesting synthesiser track, draws your attention even close to the album, the speed increases, and the action rises
Time: 10/10 a great guitar track, one of my favorite solos of all time. This track keeps your interest, and really gets you into the cd. It's combined w/ Breathe Reprise
The Great Gig in the Sky: 10/10 the last of the first four tracks, great piano, very classical, but modern. the action speeds up the gos down.
Money: 8/10 my least favorite song. A break from the albums action, tones it down. A very upbeat song, talking about negative ascpects of music.
Us and Them: 10/10 a very good piano and sax in this song. An anti war song which really brings you back into the cd with its cresendos, and its energy.
Any Colour You Like: 10/10 this is my favorite song of the cd. Every insturment involved is amazing, and it's so perfectly put together.
Brain Damage/Eclipse: 10/10 Two very good tracks, about conformity, and how being different is really alright. The music is amazing, and its ended in a very fast climactic pace. Very good, with my favorite line of the cd "Everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclisped by the moon"
A great album, definetly a must have by anyone. It should be listened to all the way through though too get the full effect.
And if you want too try the Wizard of Oz thing, start the cd on the third roar of the lion in the black and white version. It will play three times through.

very few people will disagree on the fact thatthe dark side of the moon is the greatest album ever.this superb album was the second highest selling album of all time selling over 40 million copies worldwide and containing hits like time, money and us and them.an absolute must in every rock fan's collection along with the wall.very highly recommended.please ignore all subsequent one star reviews for this masterpiece.thanks
The dark side of stupidity
There's not much more I can say except that this CD ranks high on my list of most overrated albums. The music is so shrill and boring it hurts. Negative stars.
