Description: In the late 1980s, Pink Floyd came roaring back with a decent studio album and an awesome stadium tour. Delicate Sound is a postcard from that tour that has the impossible task of capturing the spectacle of flying pigs and crashing beds. Also without the brood and bass of the departed Roger Waters, even a large backing band can't recreate the majesty of the original recording of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond." Still "On the Turning Away," from A Momentary Lapse of Reason, sounds better than the studio version and a smattering of Floyd's best cuts from The Wall and Darkside of Moon make this live album a decent collection. --Greg Emmanuel

Reviews:

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason: Improved Version

I like to think of this as the improved version of A Momentary Lapse Of Reason. It's got the highlights from that album and the best songs from the rest of their career. The biggest issue I have with this is David Gilmour's vocals on some of the songs (ex. Another Brick In The Wall). Besides that, it's pretty cool. Probably my favorite song on here is One Of These Days. In my opinion, it's superior to the Meddle version. Another problem I have is Money. I don't like hearing this song live. If you've heard the Pulse version, it's basically the same. It just has too much of that "hoo" vocal stuff on it. Anywho, besides whatever, this is a pretty decent album. If you had to pick between this or AMLOR, go with this.

Always a fan

Having been nurtured on Pink Floyd by my dad when I was growing up in the 80's I appreciate Delicate Sound of Thunder in its entirety. I may have been only 8 yrs old when it was released, but listening to this album remains as a favorite pasttime for me. The CD will never be the same as vinyl, but it'll have to do since I don't have a turntable.

The best version of Another Brick in the Wall to my ears, Comfortably Numb is an incredible jamfest (as is the rest of the album). Sorry to the critical ones, but Delicate Sound is up there with Pulse, Darkside, etc.

Mind Blowing Floyd!

In writing this review, I have focused purely on the music rather than the band composition and have not compared this to other albums. I think any album or compilation has to be taken in isolation and in this, DST stands out as an extremely well composed and engineered album. What I like about this album is its brooding and almost smoky feel, particularly when you listen to it on cloudy, rainy days, when you are just a bit blue and when you dont want something heavy going on in the background. Pick this album, put it in your CD changer and let it loop, and watch the music grow on you. The soothing bass and the mellow guitating gets you going. Get your rare scotch out and pour yourself a couple and let the heady combination take you to stratosphere!!
