Early Peter Maffay (1973) Beautiful gentle, yet powerful vocals. From the first track "Frieden" (Peace)... Peace is all that I want for everyone in the world and myself.." is is apparent that this is a man with special gifts in voice, arrangement, and presentation. I really like Dan Vogelberg, who sang fine lyrics with a sweet clear tenor, yet Maffay surpasses him because he can sing everything from tenor to baritone. His voice resonates from the diaphram, even on the soft pretty ballads, he has power. Also important is Maffay's fascination with, and ability to sing all kinds of music. This album only hints at the Maffay's penchant for rock, but it is there in "Ich bin Frei". Too many pretty songs here to mention them all, yet I am especially drawn to "Das Velorenes Schiff", "Meine Lieder, Meine Traume", the soulfull "Niemand is allein" (no one is alone),"Das Lied der Nachtagall", the acoustic blues "Der Arme ist nicht Arm", and the title "Omen", a medieval chant with a smooth soft rock base. YES! he is really singing those very high notes! Peter Maffay is a national treasure. Omen is just one of the precious gems in his collection.
