Another Classic Single

More Than This will not jump out at you from Gabriel's latest CD, Up. It will, however, grow on you unlike any other. The last time I felt this way about a single track--like it, but can't put my finger exactly on what it is that compels me to listen to it over and over again--was in the mid-'80s when In Your Eyes was released as part of the CD So.

Yes, folks, it's that good.

More Than This will more than likely receive the same level of appreciation and admiration as In Your Eyes.

Listen to it. Then listen to it again. Then again. Once more. See if it doesn't grow on you. More telling, see if you don't find yourself humming a part of the melody unconsciously.

I wish there was "More Than This"

I bought this primarily for the Elbow Mix. For those who own PG's Growing Up Live DVD, the Elbow Mix is the version used as the background music for Tony Levin's View. I am technological challenged, and I was unable to separate (burn) the DVD audio tracks for my CD listening pleasure. I like this remix better than the original, and it would be probably best described as a "quiet" version. The deconstructed down beat seems to better capture the feel of the song lyrics better. The first track sounds like a typical radio edit (i.e.,a short version). I have only listened to the Polyphonic Spree Mix a few times. It is quite an unusual intrepretation as it rapidly changes/mixes instumental styles from a twangy folk guiter to a full string arrangement (Is this a polyphonic spree?). While unique, I think it will grow stale very quickly.
