Como is a superior middle of the road pop singer...

This is a hophodge collection put together by Collector's choice Music, which sometimes does a good job with re-issues, however there are more complete sets available, and les commercial then this. Why doesn't Collectors Choice re-issue what the collectors really want instead of the dumb middleo f the road pop tunes on this CD, which are already easily available. Collectors Choice needs to re-issue the jazz vocal classic Perry Como's "We Get Letters" which features Como backed by a small jazz combo singing jazz standards, without the annoying background singers. This CD is better then most domestic releases, but still his best stuf was his LP's for RCA and his sides with Ted Weems' in the 30's, not his later singles. This CD recomended only as an introduction to the more commercial side of Como, and it prooves that some middle of the road pop is bearable.

Early Como recordings with some rare tracks

This is one of the very few legitimate compilations of Como recordings from this era actually obtained from original masters owned by the recording label. Many of the others are taken from old records or radio broadcasts without any compensation to either the label or Perry himself. If common sense tells you that this isn't fair then you're right. Collector's Choice deserves credit for going against the flow and conducting their business honestly. But don't count on this happening very often. Collector's Choice deserves your support on this one!

Superb collection of "overlooked" Como hits

At any rate, this ballad-dominated collection (albeit spiced with some fun novelties) is Perry at his smooth, mellow, perfectly-controlled, how-could-he-make-it-sound-so-easy best, which is to say that I couldn't have made a better choice for a Como tribute. And neither can you. Did I mention that the sound restoration is almost frightening in spots, causing the listener to feel as if he is standing next to the singer, circa 1944? Believe it.
