Reviews:

gems long forgotten

Some time ago I was listening to an oldies program on the radio while driving towards Russia, St. Petersburg. All of a sudden out came this wonderful standard from yesteryear "I miss you so". Yes, Diana Krall's made it her own, but still I couldn't help enjoying this real golden oldie with an old dear friend on the front seat. Whatever happened to Paul Anka? He even visited Helsinkin in the summer of '59. And though seldom heard on radio these days, his voice was easy to recognize, not broad in range, but perfectly suited to his material, the quaint, sentimental teen ballads. So I went out and bought this record (the only Anka record with "I miss you so" on it) and found another gem on it - "My heart sings". Really operatic, enchanting tunes and I'd just wish somebody made a decent collection of his masterpieces. Where's the man hiding these days? Please Paulie, if you read these lines, get down to composing and let us have more of you.
