Amazing
If you liked "Broken" then you will love this CD as your own child. It has amzing remixes of the amazing songs that were on the broken cd. I never knew and never will know how Nine Inch Nails can write this kind of music, but it is purely AMAZING. If you are going to get this CD which I highly suggest then you should get the imported version :-)
Imported fix
I Found this by accident on a trip and listened to it non stop. i found it absolutely wonderful and compelling. it is hard to find when just looking but if you can find it's worth it! Words of advice to all NIN fans don't interpret just listen!
superior to "Broken"
Okay, here's a review from an enlightened NIN fan who doesn't shamelessly toss Reznor's proverbial salad every time he sits down to write a review here. "Fixed" is an excellent remix album (better than its source--the overrated, Ministry-metally "Broken") that floats along on currents of anger and ugliness with admirable results (remixers J.G. Thirlwell, Coil, and Butch Vig help add credibility to the material). Any prospective NIN fans should start out with this album and work their way up.
T. Razzle+Gabage Disposal="Fixed"
Below I have transcripted a phone conversation I(Me) had with one Trent "Razzle Dazzle" Reznor(TR) after taking another listen to the remix E.P. "Fixed" a good ten years after I heard it for the first time:
The phone rings. I patiently wait for an answer.
PERSON: Nothing Studios, where nothing is ever accomplished. How may I assist you?
ME: Put Razzle Dazzle on the phone!
PERSON: I'm sorry sir but he is currently trying to perfect his Pong playing skill. Can I take a message?
ME: I said I wanna speak Dazzle!
PERSON: One second.
I am at this poitn put on hold and forced to listen to Randy Newman's "You Gotta Friend In Me". Finally, I can hear a voice on the other line.
TR: Hello, this Trent.
ME: REZNOR!!!
TR: Not you again.
ME: Yes, it is I Razzle Dazzle. What's up with this "Fixed" E.P. buddy. This is garbage!
TR: Well I happen to like it.
ME: Of course you like it! You sell enough of this crap to buy a new jetski yet my friend?
TR: And what exactly do you have against the "Fixed " E.P.?
ME: It sounds like you took the master tapes to "Broken" and threw them in the garbage disposal, turned said disposal on, recorded it for half an hour then put it on disc and were convinced people were gonna buy it.
TR: Oh, I wasn't convinced they were. I KNEW they were. Why don't you just give it a little time friend, maybe it'll grow on you.
ME: No, sorry Dazzle, but that ai'nt gonna work, cause I first heard this sucker a decade ago brother and it's worse now! Worse! AND WHERE'S MY NEW RECORD?(Editors note: This call was made before NIN announced that their new record, "With Teeth", is SUPPOSED to arrive May 3rd, but I don't buy it.)
TR: Look, I'm sorry if my art goes over your head little boy...
ME: You're an idiot and a (deleted) for telling people this is good! This is tone def, mind numbing, ungodly, tuneless garbage! Are you in business with Asprin or something? Is that why you have released such a painful excuse of music?
TR: How did you get this number?
ME: NOt the point! I want my money back!
TR: Ai'nt gonna happen buddy. Cause I already spent it on a new protein shake and flour to douse myself in when NIN go back on tour to ANNIHALATE YOU!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Trent Reznor hangs up on me at this point, but not before I can hear him screaming ecstatically in the distance, "I'm RICH!!!"
Please, friends and foes alike, do not spend your money on this record, which isn't actually music but just redundant noises created by various household appliances. AVOID!!!
Trick me once, made me buy twice
This is just plain wrong. Having never heard this band I took a reccomendation from my friend Lyle and purchased their cd called Broken. Listened to it once through and immediately realized there was something wrong with it. The CD showed on my player that it had a whopping 99 songs on it, so I was pleased with Lyle because he knows I like cds with lots of songs on them. With 99 songs you figure this must be a sort of career retrospective, or Greatest Hits of sorts. I mean that's a LOT of freakin songs guys!
Anyways, when I played that cd it had like 5 real "songs" and all the rest were short blasts of get this: COMPLETE FLIPPIN SILENCE. I have never in my life heard of a band ripping people off that bad where they trick you by putting silent "songs" on a cd. Also the real songs were mixed way too loud and got my dad mad at me and disturbed Morris (my dog). Checked out amazon.com to see if other people shared my dissatisfaction of this complete rip.
That's when I realized how greedy this band really is. Turns out that they released ANOTHER cd where they went back and "fixed" everything that was wrong with the "Broken" version. They went back and made the guitars less loud, changed some names of the songs, made it so every track has music on it and even changed the color of the cover (Whew! That's a whole lotta "fixing"!). Now what really irks Howard Tuttleman (me), is that these greedy jerks did not put out a recall on the "broken" version, did not publicly apologize (to the best of my knowledge), and do not offer any kind of refund on the messed up one (I know, I tried). It just seems plain irresponsible and greedy on their part that they didn't pull the obsolete "broken" cd off the shelves. I have written a letter to the record company, and to Trent Reznick (I think he is the "singer" (more like screamer)) to put in a formal complaint to no avail.
In conclusion I did not care for this group (too loud)it's not heavey in the way I like (Limp, Korn, etc.), or their questionable marketing techniques. I am also slightly disappointed with Lyle because he did not warn me about which version NOT to buy. So basically, Buyer beware. Later
very clever
i just got this album today. fixed? more like shattered into little pieces. a must have if you own broken. be warned, the last track 'screaming slave' sounds like an acid trip gone horribly bad.
What a mistake this was.
Here we have another of a long line of really, really sub-par NIN remix albums. "Fixed" is different, because it was taken from "Broken" the songs are not even bearable, as they are jumbled pieces of noise, very repetative and unlistenable. I would not recommend this to anybody, if you must own a NIN remix album, at least check out "Still" (which is surprisingly very well done) or the one with "The Fragile" remixes (whose name escapes me..."Things Falling Apart", was it?
Yes, so...don't ever buy this.
