Description: The biggest difference between a kick-ass studio album and a kick-ass live album? Intensity. Live: And All That Could Have Been, recorded on Nine Inch Nails' 2000 "Fragility 2.0" U.S. tour, provides that trait in abundance. It helps that Trent Reznor has a band, instead of just a battery of keyboards, to help him work through 16 tracks of the raging yet surprisingly listenable musical vitriol that made him a star. The live musicians, who allow him some freedom to play with tempo, help kick "Closer" up a notch and lend some atmospheric weight to a slow version of "The Frail." The band rips into older material with gusto; Reznor sounds just as pissed off performing "Head Like a Hole" as he did in 1989. The CD closes with "Hurt," which might seem like an odd choice, but somehow, after everything that's come before, it's like the denouement of a tragedy. While a CD can only capture a piece of NIN's onstage energy, their first live album is an intense, sometimes overwhelming recording, further vindication of NIN's continuing popularity and influence. --Genevieve Williams

Reviews:

live cds....once and a while, they DONT suck!!!!

ive always had bad experiences with live albums...but this one is so good...this cd makes me feel sad though because i never went to see the tour, cuz if it sounded this good on the cd it must have been SOOOO good to be there in person...i almost didn't buy it because of my bad experiences with live albums, it DOES NOT matter whether or not its live,, it basically sounds like a greatest hits collection to me.
trent, who seems to be kind of a perfectionist, was pretty brave by putting out a live album, cuz even if you don't notice,or care it has its tiny tiny mistakes, which dont even sound bad its just not the exact version of the original song (which it shouldnt be anyways, since its a live cd)...
there is another 2 disc version of and all that could have been which is kinda rare, so if you want the second disc ('still') but dont want to buy anything over again go to, www.nin.com/still and you can buy the second disc there...still is mostly a lot of piano tracks, remakes of old songs, and the actual song 'and all that could have been' which is a pretty mellow track, but its so awesome....of coarse there is the live dvd or vhs with some live stuff which is really awesome (the best live footage ive seen in a while)
so basically you need to get all of these things to have the full halo 17, and you wont regret it because they are ALL worth it

My 1st NIN halo

I started getting into NIN and more industrial music about a week ago. I listen to mainly thrash, metal, death/black metal, and classical music, and I wanted to expand my music intellect. I really love "Pretty Hate Machine", but my local Hastings store didn't have it, so I decided to pick this up. This is an incredible live CD! One of my favorite live CDs as well. So I can't talk about the band, I guess I'll talk about the songs.
Terrible Lie 10/10- Probably one of the best industrial songs I've ever heard. This is an awesome song, with incredible keyboard work and singing by Trent.
Sin 10/10- This song is great. It sounds like there are 20 keyboardists up there. The drumwork is excellent as well. Very fast and upbeat. 1 of my favorite NIN songs.
March of the Pigs 8/10- I like this song a lot, because of the awesome guitar work in it, but I think its better on CD.
Piggy 8/10- Very slow, very dark song. Sort of reminds me of old 007 movies for some reason....
The Frail 10/10- This is seriously some of the best piano work I've ever heard. Its so dark, so awesome....Reminds me of Super Metroid on the SNES, if you guys can remember that.
The Wretched 7/10- Pretty good. Dark, but it doesn't click with me for some reason.
Gave up 8/10- I don't like the punky feel of the song, but the industrial parts are awesome. The drumwork is great as well.
The Great Below 10/10- I love the keyboards yet again. Sounds like it requires 10 people playing the keyboards, and Trent sings very well. Dark, dark, dark, dark and beautiful.
The Mark Has Been Made 10/10- Very beautiful and dark stuff here. Trent's (which I believe is the guitarist too) guitar wrok is superb, and the effects he uses on his guitar are awesome. The keyboards are awesome, and the bass is really low on this song.
Wish 9/10- One of NIN's heaviest songs. Great drumwork, and the samples are awesome.
Suck 6/10- Simply one of the strangest songs I've ever heard, but I don't like it.
Closer 10/10- One of the best songs on the album. Awesome drum intro, cool guitars, and downright haunting. Trent's vocals are DEMENTED.
Head like a f****n' Hole 15/10- This song got me into NIN and industrial music in general. Awesome guitars, cool keyboards, great samples, good drumming, and great vocals. This is one of the best songs I've ever heard, and this is one incredible song live. This song and Pretty Hate Machine was WAY ahead of its time.
The Day the World Went Away 10/10- Beautiful keyboards and singing, and some of the best guitar work Trent has done. Awesome samples, great drumming. One of the best and darkest songs on the album.
Starf****ers, Inc. 7/10- Interesting name, eh? Good, but I didnt like it as much as the others.
Hurt, 10/10- Hurt is a beauriful song, with melodic vocals from Trent, and wonderful guitar work. This was one of the first NIN songs I heard, and it's definetely one of my favorites. Dark and melodic.

Nine Inch Nails-'And All That Could Have Been Live'(Nothing)

Perhaps not the best live CD release in existence, but STILL a fine disc at that. Not sure what is missing, but 'And All That...' does seem to leave something to be desired.Notice that the used stores seem to have a fair share of used copies, but I most certainly plan to hang onto my copy for years to come. The sixteen track CD serves as an audio document of NIN's 2000 U.S. tour,of which I saw and I remember the gig being no less than top rate.Trent Reznor and his four touring musicians appear to draw the listener in with tunes that(more or less)had managed to make NIN a household name. You know, their gems like "March Of The Pigs","The Frail","Wish","Suck","Closer","Head Like A Hole","The Day The World Went Away" and "Hurt".Must admit though, the disc sounds very close to the studio versions of the songs on there of.Overall,I wasn't really disappointed with this disc, but I've heard of a few other fans that somewhat were.
