Description: During the '80s, New Edition reigned as the biggest and best boy R&B group. Influenced by the Jackson 5, New Edition influenced New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men, who took their name from a New Edition song. After a "hiatus" of nearly 8 years, the Boston-based act reunited in 1987, with all of the original members, most notably the first to go solo, Bobby Brown. With big name producers (Puffy Combs, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, etc.) in tow,
Home Again has some seriously great moments, especially on the cuts that Jam and Lewis cook up. But as with most reunions,
Home Again was proof that you can't fully return to your past. While the voices were fine, the magic wasn't always there.

Reviews:
I'm still in love with NE
This was a very nice album. The highlight of the record has to be the soulful ballad "I'm Still In Love With You". Something about it takes my breath away!
New Edition find their way Home....Again...
For the first time ever, all six members of New Edition collaborate for their album, "Home Again". That's right folks, Bobby is even on this one! Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant come Home Again!
This is a good album. However, it has a strong beginning and a strong ending, but it's pretty weak middle. The first three songs and the last four songs are what makes the album good. This album is very r&b, New Edition go for what they know on this album. You female listeners have your set of love songs on this album, where Johnny, Ricky, Ralph and Bobby croon. Then there is always the couple of members who like to rap (Ronnie and Mike). "Hit Me Off" is the album's first single. Many r&b fans were happy to see New Edition back together, which probably helped this single, and this album, become a success. The first single is a nice way to come back. The song is a little too commercial In my opinion, but it's a definite highlight on this album. All of the members have a part in this song. "I'm Still in Love With You" is a beautiful song. It about a man who's in a relationship with a woman, but her friends are telling her she shouldn't be with him. Lots of women fell in love with this song, which was produced by super producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who also produced a lot of this album. "Thank You" is a little something Johnny wrote. He plays the piano (which is the only instrument in this song) ad he thanks God for bringing he and his group back together. Johnny gets very emotional and he does a very nice job with the vocals. Jermaine Dupri also did some production on this album. "Shop Around", "Hear Me Out" and "Try Again" are borderline fillers. They are OK songs, but not really fancied by me.
I think the r&b lover will get a kick out of this album. But, I don't think many people will enjoy the entire album, just selected tracks. It's a 3 star, but I'd recommend it. I love New Edition!

The Triumphant Return
The group that started it all for today's (weening) crop of boy bands (after the Jackson 5 of course) had been away for what seemed like eons. 8 years is considered an eternity in the realm of music, and anything produced after such a hiatus is almost always... no... IS considered a comeback. Just ask Michael Jackson and he can say that same. After the critically-acclaimed "Heart Break", New Edition decided to "cool it now" and split up into semi-successful/successful branch-offs (Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, BBD). As talented as N.E.'s offshoots were, only as a unit were New Edition at its absolute potential. To make it known to the R&B new jacks that were dominating the airwaves who still reigned as the original dons of marrying R&B and hip-hop successfully, New Edition decided to get together in 1996 (with the addition of the apparently egotistical Bobby Brown, no less!) and grace us with the masterpiece "Home Again." With songs that even equal the magic that was created with "If It Isn't Love" and "Can You Stand The Rain", N.E. doesn't disappoint the anticipating fan at all. Instead of today's contemporary R&B groups where there's one dominating lead singer, it has FOUR lead singers... and two capable rappers (no matter what anyone says about Devoe and Bivens... they've evolved a lot). This is what you call a supergroup (considering that they all have flirted with solo success). It's nice that all 6 put their egos aside (for Brown it's commendable) and let their vocal chemisty run the project. There's equal contributions from all 6 of the guys (Mike Biv has a co-writing credit on the Boyz II Men-esque "Hear Me Out"), and with original producers Jam and Lewis, I think this album makes for a timeless classic. The standout songs are... all of them with the exception of "Tighten It Up" and "Shop Around". My favorites are of course the single "Hit Me Off", the banger "Feels So Good", the beautiful "One More Day", the slow burner "How Do You Like Your Love Served", and the magnificent closer "Home Again" (which is like a reprise of "Can You Stand The Rain"). No matter how well this album did or not (I thought 6 radio singles from the album spoke for themselves... that's half the album!), this album will rank amongst one of the best albums (reunion or not) to ever come out in the late 90s by one of the most talented groups to ever come out. Too bad Bobby's ego prevented another triumphant return with N.E.'s new album "One Love".
