Description: Early buzz on
The Emancipation of Mimi had it that this would be the disc to mark "the return of the voice"the voice being that glass-shattering instrument that propelled Carey to best-selling female artist of all time statusand mostly it is. But because of the small army of talent involved in its assembly, it's also way more than that. For straight-ahead, look-out-Beyonce-Mimi's-still-got-it reinforcement, try "Mine Again," a 70s-soul cuddle-up, "Circles," a soaring, don't-attempt-this-on-
American-Idol love song, the gospel dazzler "Fly Like a Bird," and "Stay the Night." But for songs that steer this disc directly into 2005, no looking back, scan the jewel case for the tracks followed by the word "featuring": "To the Floor," with Nelly, bumps along to maximum booty-shaking effect, while Twista spins his natural-disaster-force vocal into "One and Only." Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Jermaine Dupri also pitch in; between them and the highwire vocals,
Emancipation works the kind of pure-pop magic that sets us all free.

Reviews:
Clichè Pop/R&B With A Beautiful Twist
The beats within Emancipation of Mimi are typical fare, sonically resembling past Pop and R&B efforts. The guest appearances are far from phenomenal, and, at times, far removed from the rhymes and flows one would be accostomed to from the respective artists. Mariah's voice is clear, crisp, dynamic, and utterly beautiful, which is to be expected. At times, one would quickly recognize a sound reminiscent of prior Carey albums. Despite all of this clichè typicality, Emancipation of Mimi stands out, if not sonically, then emotionally as one of the most powerful Pop/R&B albums to hit shelves.
When I first picked up this album, I wasn't overly impressed. Usually after a listen or two to any album, I can form a firm opinion of it, first listening casually, then picking up on vocals, background beats, the highs, and the lows. After five or six listens, beginning to end, I just wasn't impressed. However, I found myself listening to "Get Your Number" on repeat, then mixing in "We Belong Together," and, in less than a day, I was listening to the album clear through, enjoying every moment. Pick this album up, and you'll find at least one or two songs you connect with. Faster than you realize it, you'll be listening to the whole thing over and over. It's just that good.
The tracks vary from succinct ballads, such as "We Belong Together" and "Mine Again," where Mariah's voice reaches unbelievable highs and breathtaking lows, to upbeat, empowering staccatos like "Get Your Number" and "To The Floor." Unlike some of the more prominent artists today, Mariah manages to make every song sound different from the previous tune, ensuring that there's at least one or two songs every fan of this genre can connect with. This sonic variance gives the album a unique flavour, despite it's similarities to everything released prior. Listen to every song enough times, and the infectious nature of the total product will consume you. It's really just that good.
I don't know if this signifies a "comeback," as Mariah never really went too far since her release of the film Glitter. However, if the emancipation of her alter-ego has proven anything, she can make a fantastic album that supercedes all of her previous efforts.
It's really, truely just that good.
Just let the cd repeat !
It is very seldom that I listen to a CD and like it the very first time but this CD is truly the exception. Mariah is fresh and new and this CD is the best from her thus far. The Emancipation has just the right blend of very strong vocals mixed with fresh beats, tight lyrics and the right blend of pop funk.
Mariah is the sexiest!
She looks damn hot in her album!!!!
As for the music, they are ALL GOOD! They reason I give it a 4 star instead of 5 is that I hoped to hear some inspiring songs such as Hero, through the rain in this album. However, all of them are love songs except for the last one.
Mariah is so sexy! You definitely don't wanna miss this album!
Mariah proves to still be the BEST singer EVER!!!!!!
Mariah Carey never ceases to amaze me!! Charmbracelet may not have been her best album vocally but what amazed me by that album was that it didn't sound like any other of her other albums and it was like that "My Saving Grace" song was made for me because since I am a Christian, I feel exactly the same, Lord Jesus is my saving grace. After just one listen to The Emancipation Of Mimi, it amazes me how Mariah is not afraid to take chances, she doesn't have to have every single album sound exactly alike, she does what she wants and doesn't let anyone tell her what to do. NO album is exactly alike. There's always progression. I am, always have been, and always will be Mariah's true and hugest fan!! It's like Mariah writes these songs for me, I mean that I can totally relate, I'm a girl so it's not literally for me but hopefully people will know what I mean!!! I totally love The Emancipation Of Mimi. As I am writing this review I am listening to it, my 6th time in a row!!!
The song It's Like That is so awesome to dance and sing along to. I love the music, the lyrics, and especially Mariah's powerful vocals! My all time favorite song is really hard to pick because there are two songs that I love and really can't decide between the two. We Belong Together is such a wonderful, beautiful slow ballad that should reach number 1 on Billboard, it's so powerful musically, vocally and lyrically and Mariah's voice is so amazing and everyone who thinks Mariah can't sing anymore, don't know what they're talking about because Mariah's voice is so incredible, especially on the end of this song!!! I totally love it!!!! The song Fly Like A Bird is such a spiritually, powerful song and it's amazing that Mariah wrote these words that I've been wanting to say, well I've been searching for the right words and it's Mariah who knew exactly what I was feeling toward the Lord. Mariah's church Minister or Pastor speaks throughout the song and "His Love Will Never Forsake You Or Leave You Alone, Trust Him" is forever in my soul. Words like "Carry Me Home, Higher Jesus, Carry Me Higher Lord" and "I Need You Now Lord, Carry Me High, I Need The Strength Of You By My Side" and "Keep Your Head To The Sky, With God's Love You'll Survive." There is also a Choir singing. This song tells exactly how I feel toward the Lord Jesus and what I want to say to him. There's nothing better than my favorite singer of all time singing about my saviour, Lord Jesus!!! Another favorite of mine is Joy Ride. Not because my name is in the title, because it's such a cool pop song that you can sing along to and Mariah's vocals are over the top, especially at the very end of the song. I love the music during the chorus of Joy Ride with drum and bass beats, it's awesome!!! Shake It Off is a really cool R&B upbeat song. Mine Again is another slow ballad that Mariah belts on. Mariah just about belts on every single song, especially on We Belong Together, Mine Again, Joy Ride, and Fly Like A Bird. Say Somethin' with Snoop Dogg is a really cool dance R&B song with a really cool beat to dance to and I find myself singing along to this song too. Stay The Night is a very soulful and unique song, the music reminds me of something from the 50's or 60's and I love the way Mariah sings and belts. I love It!! Get Your Number with Jermaine Dupri is a cool upbeat R&B song that I also like. One And Only with Twista is a cool mid-tempo song that I like a lot. Circles is another slow ballad that I love and love the way Mariah sings!! Your Girl is a really cool upbeat song and I love the way Mariah sings in the chorus, it's a really cool song to sing along to!!! In I Wish You Knew, Mariah speaks a few times during the song and you hear an audience, a very beautiful slow ballad, I especially love the end when Mariah hits that high note!!! To The Floor with Nelly could be the next club song, it's a really cool upbeat R&B/Hip-Hop song.
When I hear the songs Fly Like A Bird and Joy Ride, I picture just soaring way up high in the clouds, especially on Fly Like A Bird but also on Joy Ride because the whole song makes me picture being up there high in the clouds, being free. If Mariah was to make a music video for either Fly Like A Bird or Joy Ride, I picture her just soaring through the clouds on an Eagles' wing or something. Mariah sings with so much emotion, soul, and power on these songs, all 14 of them, using all 7 of her octaves, hitting that really high note a lot!!! There is all sorts of elements, Pop, Hip-Hop, Soul, Gospel, and R&B. Mariah's new CD, The Emancipation Of Mimi is a MUST HAVE for anyone who likes any of those elements I listed above and especially Mariah fans!! Mariah is the BEST!!!
This Limited Edition comes with a double-sided poster, one side a poster of Mariah and the other side, the lyrics to the songs on the CD.
Mariah Rocks!!!!!!!!!!
This CD is by far the best she has ever come out with!! ITs amazing how she continues to do it!!! The songs are sooooo BEAUTIFUL and anyone in love or finding their one and only or trying to Shake it off will be able to understand where her lyrics are coming from!!!
You MUST OWN THIS CD!!!
you will not regret it!!! I assure you, you will enjoy every track....
