Description: Never underestimate Madonna's power of persuasion: By nearly all critical accounts,
Ray of Light, Madonna's first album of new material since 1994's
Bedtime Stories, and her first since motherhood, is her richest, most accomplished record yet. While
Ray of Light is being tagged as Madonna's big leap into electronica, it's important to note two things: First, her music has always had close ties to dance culture, and, second, her collaborator William Orbit is no Chemical Brother. Though it has all the latest blips, bleeps, and crackles electronica has to offer,
Ray of Light is still largely an adult album, completely within Madonna's realm. Still, Orbit's tasteful sonic constructions provide Madonna with her most adventurous, hippest musical backdrop ever. What's more, the arrangements and production are understated enough to highlight an even bigger development: Fresh from singing lessons on the
Evita set, Madonna's vocal range, depth, and clarity have never been stronger. But larger pipes don't necessarily make for deeper, truer music. Never a master lyricist, Madonna's words have worked best when they've practically been slogans ("Vogue," "Express Yourself"). This time she goes for more emotional depth, and even tries her hand at ethno-techno-mysticism ("Shanti/Ashtangi"). She largely stumbles, however. The tone conveyed on songs like "Nothing Really Matters" is a self-centered pat on the back that belies her claim to a newfound altruism. It's enough to make you wonder, now that Madonna's given up being our material girl, if maybe she's set her sights on becoming the center of our spiritual world too.

I gave this CD 5 stars because the remixes are excellent. The Ray of Light album itself is 5 stars. This is 2 CD collection. You cannot find this CD in stores. It was released only for promotional purposes only to dance club DJ's, but if you come across don't hesitate to buy it you will not be dissapointed. The remixes on the first album which is featued here contain the best remixes of Shanti, Ray Of Light, Sky Fits Heaven, and Power of Goodbye.
Great album, great limited edition
This limited edition of the Ray Of Light album comes in a special digipak with a 3-D hologram cover that resembles blue satin-textured fabric when you move it. It's really quite pretty. This edition is now out of print, so if you find one, get it!

"Ray Of Light" maybe Madonna's best album--it's a masterpiece! Songs like "Little Star" and "The Power Of Goodbye" maybe quite moving at times and others maybe very uplifting. There are 5 singles from the album--one of which was a Double A-Sided single. They are: "Drowned World..." (UK #10), "Ray Of Light" (UK #2), "Nothing Really Matters" (UK #7), "Frozen" (UK #1) and "The Power Of Goodbye/Little Star" (UK #6). "Ray Of Light" (the album) hit #1 in the UK and #2 in the US. "Beautiful Stranger" could've been included but it is still an excellent album and effort.
One of Madonna's best (if not THE best)
This was my first Madonna album, and I have to admit, I became hooked! My album starts with "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" - a great song... I go on... "Swim" is next. Another great song and the first not to be a single... "Ray Of Light" is next. The great song which introduced me to this album... Next is "Candy Perfume Girl"... Madonna's powerful vocals appear on this one... "Skin" is next and nearly 6 and a half minutes long. No relation to the song Swim... "Nothing Really Matters" maybe my favourite single release from the album... Next is "Sky Fits Heaven"... This had remixes on the Substitute For Love single... After that is "Shanti/Ashangti" which is sung in a completely different language... "Frozen" was the first single release from the album... "The Power Of Goodbye" and "Little Star" were duoble A-sided singles - both very good... "To Have And Not To Hold" is very catchy... ("ba ba ba ba ba ba") "Mer Girl" is last and maybe my favourite from the album...very different...
Overall Score - 10/10
"Ray Of Light" is an excellent Madonna album (look up review title). It reached #1 in the UK and #2 Stateside. Madonna had many hits from the album...
ray of remixes
As I don't know which Ray Of Light - Remix Album it is talking about, as there are many, I am reviewing 'Ray Of Remixes'. I found this CD in Spain, Benidorm. I don't think it was released by Madonna and her record company because you can not find it anywhere else, there were also other Madonna CDs there, which you cannot find anywhere else. (e.g 'MegaJam', 'House Music 1', 'House Music 2', 'House Music 3' and 'The Music Remixes'). Pretty Interesting isn't it? Well, you'll have to go there to buy them. Anyway back to this CD. As I said before, it is a Spanish CD with English Remixes on it (Includes 1 Spanish Remix).
There are 10 tracks in total. 7 from the album Ray Of Light (remixed versions) and 3 that were recorded around the time of the Ray Of Light album (remixed versions).
The 1st track is Ray Of Light (Ultra Violet Mix). As you may well know, this was included on the Ray Of Light single. You know the 10:43 minute one? It's that one. An excellent opener. The 2nd track is Frozen (Stereo MCs Mix). This was included on the Frozen maxi and the Austrailian and English singles. One of the best remixes on here. The 3rd track is Sky Fits Heaven (Sasha Remix). This was never commercially released as a single, but was a B-Side on the Subsitute For Love single. Again one of the best on here. The 4th track is Subsitute For Love (Sasha Bucklodge Remix). This remix is a mouthful to type so I've shortened it! Found on the Subsitute For Love single. Again, excellent. The 5th track is Ray Of Light (Calderon (Calderone) remix). Better than most calderone remixes. Found on the Ray Of Light single. The 6th track is Sky Fits Heaven (Calderon (Calderone) remix). A jazzy number! Found on the Subsitute For Love single. The 7th track is Frozen (Extended Club Mix). Again, mixed by Calderon (Calderone) and the best Calderone mix on here! Found on the Frozen singles (all above). Remix lasts for 11 minutes. The 8th Track is Veras (You'll See Spanish Version). Excellent song when the original was released and this is also excellent. Tracks 9 and 10 are Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Miami Mix and Miami Spanglish Edit). Excellent! Found on the Don't Cry For Me Argentina maxi.
Brill CD!!! (Whoever made it!!!)

Remixes of Light, Ray of Light - Remix Album
I found this CD in a great little shop in East Village, N.Y. I don't think it's an original Madonna album released by her record company. The 5 singles released from the album features much better remixes on the CD-maxis, but these are OK. The best mix (I think), is "Mer Girl (future dub mix)". But I must say, this is a collector's item, only because it's Madonna, nothing more...
Spiritual trance music
This wonderfull album - her best with Erotica - is simply one of the most beautifull and well played of all time! The excellent production of William Orbit will shines forever! Smooth, gentle and spiritual and really invites you to dance... I?ve allways thought that Ray of Light should be played in everyone?s houses! If you can get this beautifull edition you?ll become an afictionated with all her stuff... Don?t miss it! Buy 2 or more and make an offer!
strong electro pop, a new direction entirely
I had heard the poppy and peppy stuff that Madonna made in the 80's and I didn't like it, but I must admit that this album is really cool and basically a 180 degree turn of sorts. That she was able to bring in album concept like this and make it her best one yet says something of her talent. I do agree that there is some kind of weird mysto-self-centered aspect to the songs on here, but the songs are unique and more interesting then most people her age can come up with. I was especially intrigued by the electronica that dominates the whole album, quite a change. This album is all about changing, growing up in a way. It doesn't work all the time ("candy perfume girl" always annoyed me) but there are very strong aspects to all of the songs. This cd is definitely worth your time. Go get it!
