Good Cover Song
o yhe not a cd , so dont buy thinking its a cd .. the only thing i can do is rate the song now :/ ...the only person id rather do this cover would be Madonna , after hearing the original. It has her touch to it and i dont see why reviewers are trying to compare it to the orginial artists sound . two different sounds . Everyone will always love the person who made the song but its a cover song on this cd and i didnt grow up with the older version so i have no idea about the feeling of having this song changed with my memories of it . so there is no attatchment really . so this 22 year old can only review it to what shes been exposed to .
Tragic Desecration
What a sad thing to hear a song I grew up with, and loved, cut to pieces.
And yes, Don Mclean, bless him, must bear some responsibility for allowing this to happen.
Hopefully, we'll never be subjected to another Madonna cover again...
Try not to be offended!
This is a review of the cover of American Pie, by Madonna. This is not a review of the album Miss AMerican Pie, which I am led to believe contains no music at all.
I am 27 years old, which makes me too young to remember the original version of this song getting any radio play. I am familiar with it, however. Folk music is not my arena, it's not my cup of tea, I don't mess with it, and I don't care for it. I find Madonna's version much more enjoyable. If you are a fan of dance music, you should enjoy Madonna's reinterpretation. It's not a club stomper, but the remixes by Vission certainly are. Apparently, an artist of Madonna's calibre should not be allowed to cover other artists material according to some critics. I suppose it has something to do with the nature of her music. Dance music hardly ever is recognized by othe genre's as credible music. Especially electronic music. I read a review in a magazine of what Elvis Costello considered to be the 100 greatest albums of all time. There were close to no albums from the eighties, and the few dance records that were acknowledged were so stereotypical of him, such as Abba's collection entitled Gold. Well, who's going to argue that?
My point, if I even have one, is that I'm tired of stuffy pretentious artists like Elvis Costello who think that a synthesizer, or simple lyrics to a dance beat equal crap. I actually am quite fond of Elvis' music, by the way. I just think his attitude sucks. May Madonna continue to breathe new life into songs that may have disappeared from the radio's playlists, even if the cost is upsetting those that consider it to be an act of SIN.
Love!
