if you're a fan of singing madonna songs, you need to realise that a cd like this is a rare one. on this cd, you'll find 9 out of the 11 songs on the regular "American Life" cd. that automatically makes it a 5 star item in my opinion considering how cool it is to have almost all the tracks on the cd in karaoke format. Many madonna songs are not in karaoke fomat because companies chose to only release singles and most popular songs off of madonna albums in the past. and all the people who actually appreciate this new album will understand how great this is.
ok, now i'll do a rundown of all the tracks with first impressions as i listened to them.
note: these do have background vocals and sometimes they're ok and sometimes they're just not very good.
1. American Life- this is a really good likeness to the original. sounds very electronic and accurate, there's a 20 second pause in the beginning where the singer is supposed to start accapella and it kind of throws you off but its not that bad. only a couple background vocals in this one.
2. American Pie- i didn't really like this karaoke version, it was ok, but the backing vocals just don't sound very good. it doesn't sound terrible but it could've been better.
3. Die Another Day- this one sounds preety good. something i don't like in this one is the backround vocals doing the 'sigmund froid analize this' and the 'uh's. but other than that it sounds very electronic and everything.
4. Don't Tell Me- GREAT version. and i say this because finally a karaoke place decided to leave out the weak quiet voice in the beginning verse....but then it comes in after that for most of the song....but at least it's not there in the beginning. sounds a little more mono than the original but not bad.
5. Hollywood- sounds really great actually, real birds and everything. the guitar has a true likeness to the real thing. backing vocals come in on the first 'shine your light now'.
6. Intervention- one of the best songs on the madonna albums and this one's very worthy. guitars in beginning sound fantastic. even the sides of the audio are correct when listening to headphones.
7. Like a Prayer- A new karaoke version of this for once, sounds different than the ones you've probably heard before. once again, this company does great with the guitar parts in most songs. this version's backing vocals sound a lot better than some of the other karaoke versions i've heard. ok, one bad thing about this track, the choir solo is there, and i like to sing that part, so it's kind of a bummer.
8. Like a Virgin- Pretty good rendition. one of the better i've heard. sounds a lot more rocky and less midi sounding than some karaoke versions tend to be.
9. Love Profusion- sounds good to me, backing vocals not too bad and once again, i can't stress how much guitars sound so great.
10. Material Girl- I've never really found a great version of this song karaoke wise, there always seems to be something missing from the original that is too big to be notices. the backing vocals are kind of annoying on this one.
11. Mother and Father- one of those tracks that would probably never come out in a karaoke version, and one of my fav songs on the new madonna album. sounds pretty good. very close to the cd, but not completely there, as most usually aren't. only a few backing vocals on this one twords the end i think.
12. Music- ok version, once the 'hey mister d.j...' right at the beginning ends. they can never get it right. if they would just take a woman and lower her voice like they did with madonna it would sound much better. but a good version none the less. the 'do you like to's sound really good.
13. Nothing Fails- Again, a fav on the new album, i was overjoyed to see it in the track listing. sounds very good. some of the backing vocal twords the end get a little too much. the choir at the end sounds very good, but really only like a few people singing. and no buzz like on the madonna cd, and i like that!
14. Papa Don't Preach- the strings a little weak in the beginning but it's an ok version.
15. Vogue- Cool karaoke version of this song, sounds more like a remix in the beginning than the album version, but that makes it all the cooler. backing vocals are actually pretty good, surprisingly....very strong just like her original backup singers.
16. Xtatic Process- Beautiful version, i just wish it was completly instrumental. i'd much rather sing with one vocal (me) than with some other karaoke vocal. but it's ok, not as bad as it could've been.
all in all, a great cd and well worth the price to have so many new madonna songs in karaoke format. you'll have lots of fun with this one wether with friends on just by yourself at your computer listening with headphones.
