Reviews:

Cheese Deluxe!

Remakes (especially nowadays) are hardly something new. Some are great, some are good, some push the song into new boundries, some give it a new take, and some just plain stink! This release, by the Dutch, one woman fronted, production team lies somewhere in-between. Riding high on Madonna tunes of 80's past and 90's cool, the stand-out track here is the already huge worldwide smash "Like a Prayer" which lays the original lyrics and melody over a house beat very similar to Black Legend's 2000 club smash "You See The Trouble With Me." "Holiday" is also very catchy and yet again, combines the Madonna hit with another club smash this being the 1999 Stardust favorite "Music Sounds Better With You." There's also "Vogue," "Frozen" and "Like a Virgin," but they are so cheesy and lack so much originality that you'll find yourself not caring if you'll ever hear them again (or whether or not you should have listened to them in the first place). The other mentionable track is "Papa Don't Preach," but once again, not because of a new melody or bass line, but that ripped right off another club smash: Wamdue Project's "King of My Castle." If you like euro-cheese than this might be the thing for you, but if you're looking to do Madonna justice than this album certainly does not do the trick. Absolutely Mad I am, but not for it, but for buying it. Save yourself a buck and just buy the single.
