So let me say, "Hellalive" is Hella good. No crappy surfer style metal or surfer style punk-Blink 182 garbage. This record is packed with material throughout their career, that is played live as best sounding as a live album can from one of the best metal bands. Too bad there isn't any songs off "Through the ashes of empires," which for label reasons was not released in the United States. That "hella sucks" because it is such a good album, and did commercially well in Europe. Anyway, there is a discussion about the events and the mind frame behind the 9/11/2001 events in a spoken introduction before "Crashing around you," which I won't spoil in this review.
Despite a few disappointing records after "The More Things Change," I have got back into the swing of Machine Head. When I first bought "Burn My Eyes" in 1994 I expected great things from these guys, while "The Burning Red" and "Supercharger" made me think these guys were done, I am happy to say "Through the Ashes" and this album show a powerful rebound and new hope for what can become one of the "Hella greatest metal bands."
