Some people in the record industry must be holding a "pool" to see how many compilations of LYNYRD SKYNYRD can be released within 5 years. Besides the flood released by Universal to cover the MCA years, BMG decided to contribute in their own way.
LS released 3 albums between 1997 and 1999 while on the CMC International record label, and that's where the songs on this disc come from. How strange that there's also 3 compilations covering exclusively those same albums: 1998's "Extended Versions - The Encore Collection", 2000's "Then And Now", and now this disc, "Hits From Yesterday & Today"!
Contrarily to what's stated on the back panel, not all of the tracks are recorded live... From 1997's "Twenty" album, we get "Berneice", "Travelin' Man" and "Home Is Where The Heart Is"; from the 1998 live album "Lyve From Steel Town" come "Gimme Three Steps" (but edited!), "Saturday Night Special" (also edited!), "I Know A Little", "Simple Man" and "That Smell". Finally, from the "Edge Of Forever" album, "Preacher Man" and "Workin'" have been included here.
None of the 3 compilations have exactly the same content, but some tracks are common. So you can either spend your bucks on these various titles, or just cave in and get the "real" albums, and lots more of their music.
