amazing
The story how i got this cd is a bit wierd.
It goes like this about 6 years ago Cocacola came out with one of thier specials that goes like bring ten bottle of cocacola caps to any of the Tower Records shops and get a free cd from the list.
well i have been colleting my caps and went to the nearest Tower Record store after i'v picked some cd of the list they have published.
It was some celtic collection that of course with my luck ren out of stock so i had to select another cd .
looking at the cds they have got left my eyes couldnt leave this one with the golden women on his cover it grabed me i coudnt pick anything else so i took it.
And boy did i made th right choice i couldnt get it out of my stereo i kept litsenning to it over and over again. and i got more of her cds later and every time i'm amazed by her pure vocal by the feeling of distant lands and far horizens she bring to me with her soft yet sharp enough to trumble my soul voice.
this cd is the first of her i got and the best .It throws you from the frozen lands of The anicient celtic kindoms to a burnning Marakesh Market .
from hight pitch to soft mellow ....amazing cd if you havent got it go and get it you dont know what you are missing
The magic starts here...
Like most other people I was first introduced to LM via "The Lady of Shalott". I enjoyed the song, but it was not until I heard "The Mask and the Mirror" that I was swept away completely by LM's incredible music. Each song is just so versatile and rich, with exotic and beautiful instruments mingling together to create music with texture, versatility, and vividness. "The Two Trees" has a moving piano melody to its own, accompanying LM's poignant, wistful voice, but the pipe intro "Ce he mise le ulaingt" which weaves so seamlessly into it just adds an extra dimension. Nothing short of amazing can do this song for justice. "The Dark Night of the Soul" is spiritual and sensual. "From o'er fortress wall, the wind would brush his hair against his brow" remains one of my favourite lines uttered by LM--who can resist its power? The other six songs are also very fine with the single exception of "Prospero's Speech", which does pale beside the other splendid pieces. But overall this album is right up there with "The Book of Secrets" as LM's best works.
The Mask and the Mirror
In all, this is a very good album but there is a twist in The Bonny Swans; *drumroll* the electric guitar! Does it not seem strange that she put this in here? I doubt this is in others. But I would'nt know because I've only listened to the Book of Secrets and this one. I wold have rated this 4 and a half stars but it won't let me. I am thirteen, but this is under thirteen and the other one is over thirteen so I just put it here.
